The one that's secular, doesn't have a military dictatorship in all but name, and didn't blindly let Bin Laden hide out in its territory in spite of him living in a freaking mansion a mile away from a gigantic military academy in spite of overwhelming evidence that he was there.

I have always preferred the way that Pakistan play cricket, corruption problems aside (not that that's not an issue wrt India either, of course. As the honourable member for Moradabad could tell you) and cricket is, of course, the most important thing in the universe.

Now, India's post-partition political history (and current reality) is vastly preferable to Pakistan's, but I don't think that should be the only thing to judge a place by. Hey, I'm a Russophile too.

India, of course. That's not to mention that I'd much rather be allied with a country of 1.25 billion (and one where a significant amount of the population doesn't despise our very existence and harbour terrorists).

This. I find it disappointing we've made so little effort to ally with India over the years. Hopefully this will be remedied as the Afghan War ends.

India is the most religious country on the planet. What have you been reading?

Even more than Saudi Arabia?

I like almost all of the people and students I've met from Pakistan, there are lots of fascinating things about its hybrid cultures, women can get some measure of educational achievement there, and the food is incredibly good.  But the government and state of Pakistani politics generally sucks, and is very dangerous both domestically and internationally.  In fact, never mind India, but the list of countries that have worse governments and state structures than Pakistan would be fairly short.  But, what else was to be expected, really?  The combination of Jinnah's political gambits and the fact that the borders were drawn by some randomly picked British guy who didn't know the first thing about the region was bound to unfold in catastrophe.

The poll's results demonstrate that the Cold War is over.

The government is secular, and respects religious freedom.  Although India is majority Hindu, the current Prime Minister is a Sikh and there have been Muslim Presidents.  Few countries have had that level of minority representation in government, certainly not the US.
