But if he loses a civil suit (think of OJ Simpson) he can lose such money as he might make off book rights or lecture tours. Even before such a book deal he surely knows that any money from it would be devoured in any civil suit.

What he did was the sort of police-like 'work' that few American police forces would ever tolerate. He racially-profiled someone with whom he got into a nasty altercation. But not being a police officer he would get no benefit of legal protection.
