I know there have been a few pet peeve threads, but they always seem to talk about what politicians/campaign methods we dislike. This one is for the everyday stuff that pisses you off.

To start: People who have more money than me who complain about having more money
People who drive really slow in the passing lane.

As a cashier, if you crumple up your money, it makes my life harder. Yes, it is a trivial annoyance, but really unnecessary on 10 hour days.

1)  The phrase "At any rate..." in place of phrases such as "furthermore" or "moreover"
2)  The use of "around" in place of "about" (i.e., I wrap a blanket about myself, not "around")
3)  People from Metro Atlanta, Texas, the Carolinas, or Tennessee who refer to themselves as "Southern".
4) Evangelical Christians with low-church bent

Traffic lights.  They serve a purpose, sure, but it's a terrible lie by municipalities to say the timing on them has anything to do with helping the flow of traffic.  They are timed specifically to coax drivers into speeding.

On most highways where they are used, in Jersey anyway, if you go about 10-15 above the limit, you will typically hit most green lights/be able to get through the yellow.  If you drive right around the limit, expect to hit about every red.  And you don't just hit the red... you will typically juuuuuusssttt miss getting through the yellow.

It's hard to explain, but there is incentive to speed in Jersey, and they ticket people left and right to raise funds for going 10 or so above the limit.  It can get even worse late at night, where REALLY flying will almost always mean a straight shot down the highway w/out any stops at all.

I'm no conspiracy theorist, but I do see something diabolical behind traffic lights.  Typically when its late and I can't see a cop or any other cars I just go through them.  I get wonderful life out of my brakes... tell you that much.

There's this thing called Microsoft Word.  It's pretty cool, and you should check it out.

Odd, here in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, the traffic lights are timed so that one hits all the greens if one stays at the speed limit, and if one speeds, then one invariably hits a red light.

-use of the word "woman" as an adjective, i.e. "woman president", "woman mayor", etc.
-people who are snobs about TV and music
-bad grammar in general, really
-people using part of a country to refer to the entire country, i.e. "England" for the UK or "Holland" for The Netherlands

NJ likes to use traffic violation fines and surcharges as a primary source of revenue.

People who modify their engine to make really loud, high-pitched noises. No, your car doesn't sound cool if you do that, and pretty much everyone I've talked to about this agrees.
