THE NEWT FUNDRAISER.

When former Speaker of the U.S. House Newt Gingrich arrives in New Hampshire in mid-April, he won't only be hawking his new book, "Winning the Future."

The Republican State Committee plans to utilize Gingrich's lightening rod qualities to raise a few dollars. A fundraiser is planned for April 18 at a location to be determined, according to state committee chair Warren Henderson.

Gingrich hasn't entirely shut the door on a Presidential run, but on Tuesday, he told reporters in Washington, "It strikes me as implausible" that he will launch a campaign for President or any other elected office.

Popular among Republicans, but weak for a general. Too smart and elistist for his own good. Hillary would get her revenge. (Remember the Connie Chung interview with Newt's Mom.)

I don't think Newt would get far even if he did run.

There's no way he could win.

While I give him credit for the Republicans taking over Congress in 1994, he behaved like a spoiled child, played Clinton's foil in 1995-96, and ended up cooking his own goose.

He is a hypocrite on family values, having cheated on his second wife (he left his first wife while she was battling cancer) even while condemning Clinton for doing the same thing.

Newt in 2008?  Forget it.

I dunno.  He's a very effective speaker, and if you look, he can get a lot done.  My father is a moderate repub, but LOVES Newt.  So, I think that his presidential bid isn't hopeless (which really scares me...)

The map looks almost right, but Gingrich would carry Colorado; possibly Virginia, too.

Yes, but he'd lose Florida.

Yeah, I forgot about Florida. Newt would lose it by 4-6 points.
