If that's how old he is now(and I'm not sure). Then yes, he would be 78. But he's in a lot better shape for his age then let's say Eisenhower!

Nader doesn't look like he is in good shape.  That eye scares me.

But you can tell in my story that he didn't want to run. His party nominated him so he went along with it otherwise he wouldn't have run!

I should have the next 4 years up later today, possible the next 8.

Sorry for the double post again but I again didn't think this would be done so soon.

2013:

Israel defeats Egypt after the destructive 2 year war and annexes it entirely. Rudy enters an amendment into Congress after much pressuring by his Republican counterparts. The first of which bans gay marriage but allow civil unions. Most of the public is overjoyed and the still Republican controlled Congress passes the 28 amendment. Mass protests are held in Washington DC against President Giuliani and the Republican Party but with no acknowledgement of them they disband in record time. Rudy finally mobilizes a military and sends them north into Canadian territory. With their help the Canadian army already trapped in Northeastern Alberta is crushed. With the threat of the US army moving eastward, Canada surrenders and is given harsh terms. All of Western Canada plus Quebec is free and Canada has to disband all its military forces and is not able to rebuild for 30 years.

2014:

The Progressive Party in a stunning victory wins a large number of seats in the House of Representatives and the Senate making total 50% Republican, 25% Democrat, and 25% Progressive. The US annexes Western Canada and makes them territories. Only small local protests occur while the rest is indifferent to the change. The Democratic Party enters a bill that will allow the Mexican territories to vote for statehood. With a lean vote it passes with the help of the Progressives and a small number of Republicans. The vote is held late in the year and the results end with Baja (the entire peninsula): 62% statehood and 38% for remain as a territory while Sonora and Chihuahua vote 20% statehood and 80% to remain a territory. Baja enters the Union as the 52 state on December 1st with a total of 4 electoral votes. On Christmas day the new country of Quebec gives a good will gesture of all its land south of the St. Lawrence River for assuring its freedom from Canada.

2015:

The territory of Maritime (the land given by Quebec) holds a plebiscite for US statehood and the measure passes 70% for statehood, 20% for staying a territory, and 10% for freedom. With the measure passing it goes before the Congress and is granted statehood by another lean vote. Maritime because the 53 state on January 15 with 5 electoral votes. The Republicans are aghast at the 2 new states brought into the union and break up the 7 Canadian territories into 9. With the help of a few Progressives the bill passes and a vote is held in the Canadian territories. Vancouver (former Vancouver Island): 68% for statehood, 32% for remaining a territory. British Columbia: 64% for statehood, 36% for remaining a territory. Alberta: 88% for statehood, 12% for remaining a territory. Saskatchewan: 77% for statehood, 23% for remaining a territory. Manitoba: 65% for statehood, 35% for remaining a territory. Yukon: 90% for statehood, 10% for remaining a territory. Northwestern Territories: 71% for statehood, 29% for remaining a territory. Nunavut: 92% for statehood, 8% for remaining a territory. Arctica (all the islands that used to make up the Northwestern Territories and Nunavut): 73% for statehood, 27% for remaining a territory. All 9 territories enter the Union on June 5 with 3 electoral votes each. Vice President Jeb Bush announces he will run for the Republican nomination. The Democrats turn to Milton Mortar the virtual nobody that was recently elected Mayor of Los Angeles after a short campaign gave him tremendous support.

2016:

Jeb Bush wins the nomination with relative ease but his popularity plummets at the publics thought of another Bush in the white house. With no one opposing Milton Mortar he, like Al Gore is the undisputed Democratic Candidate. The Progressive Party churns out Dale Drew who will oppose the 2 main parties. Jeb Bush chooses Sean Hannity, the phenomenal radio and television star. Milton Mortar picks Henry Oper, the newly elected Democratic Governor of Florida. Dale Drew picks Katie Kern for his Vice Presidential candidate. With little happening the whole world is tuned into the fierce fight of the greatly enlarged US. Throughout the year Jeb Bush slowly regains his popularity after his horrible start. Republicans and Democrats are both confidant that they can win the states that they can win the states they just brought in so they limit their campaigning seriously in those areas. Election night is tense with serious upsets beginning to happen in Canada with the Alliance and Bloc Quebecois Party gaining some electoral votes. With John Apple and his Vice Presidential candidate Michael Moor for the Alliance Party and Louis LaRousse and Louis Biederman for the Block Quebecois Party.

Bush/Hannity: 323
Mortar/Oper: 113
Drew/Kern: 114
Apple/Moor: 27
LaRousse/Biederman: 5

Draining votes from the Republicans and Democrats helps the Progressive Party pull ahead of the Democrats! Even with the Alliance Parties campaigning down south in the original 50 states, they don’t get any support and announce that they will be joining the Republican Party.

I'm an imperialist though so I don't think there are too many states!

2017:

After a fierce fight Jeb Bush is finally elected President. The US, still in control of the Iraqi Federation hands over the entirety of it to the newly declared Israeli Empire. Iran becomes enraged at the Shiite Muslims in former Iraq under Jewish control they declare war and invade. The US completely withdraws and leaves the immense Israeli army to crush the Iran scourge. Jeb announces he will ask Congress for another vote in the Mexican Territories for statehood to show that there are no hard feelings left from the election. England, having played no part in the Canadian Civil War finally gives Canada total freedom. Ontario, Canada rejoices while the eastern provinces are divided a little bit more. Quebec offers itself up for annexation by France and they’re accepted. French troops poor into Quebec and take up defensive positions around the US boarder and Canada.

2018:

Chihuahua and Sonora holds another vote for statehood. Chihuahua comes up 47% for statehood and 53% for remaining a territory. And Sonora comes up 51% for statehood and 49% for remaining a territory. To assure the public that there is no hard feelings Sonora is becomes the 63rd state to enter the Union on February 23 with 6 electoral votes even though it’s not a large enough majority. Unemployment which had reached a low of 2.8% under President Giuliani’s term rises to 3.5% by early March. Protests begin to form around the country and last most of the summer. Al-Queda which has fallen out of the mind of the public’s mind returns, with Libya as its host this time. Jeb calls for war with Libya and Congress passes the measure in fear of Al-Queda’s past acts.

2019:

Libya is crushed during the winter of early 2019 but some small pieces of Al-Queda has escaped to lie low in Africa. Osama Bin Laden’s body has been found in Libya and Congress feels that Al-Queda is gone and the threat is gone. The public is enraged by this war saying we had no reason to attack Libya even if Al-Queda was imbedded there. Jeb’s popularity takes another plunge as unemployment rises again to 4.8%. Massive protests are held in Washington DC calling for President Bush to resign. Jeb makes a speech and says that he will run for a 2nd term for President.

2020:

Jeb Bush wins the nomination easily with the loyal Republican base. The Democrats again nominate Milton Mortar and Henry Oper. The Progressive’s also try again with Dale Drew and Katie Kern. Louis LaRousse and Lous Biederman take up the call for the local Bloc Quebecois Party. The campaign rages with the Progressive’s making some large gains and the Republicans automatically getting the former Canadian states.

Bush/Hannity: 257
Mortar/Oper: 119
Drew/Kern: 207
LaRousse/Biederman: 5

The Republicans win the election thanks to the former Canadian states and the west but the tide is turning. The Progressives have swept the Great Lakes states and kept their firm grip on the northeast. While the Democrats have kept their hold on the west coast and the former Mexican states. While the Bloc Quebecois Party again only stays strong in Maritime.

Sorry for the double post, I didn't think I'd get this done so soon.

2004:

The Presidential election drags on with neither side gaining a permanent lead. John Kerry picks John Edwards as his Vice President in hope to lure some southern states. Throughout the year the economy keeps increasing with thousands of new jobs created brining the total up to 2.8 million jobs returned to the public. The Iraqi conflict being a thorn in President Bush’s side even though the condition doesn’t improve. In late October, taking the initiative, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld resign and are replaced with Rudy Giuliani as Vice President and John McCain as Secretary of Defense.
With their help President Bush retains the presidency with a larger gap then expected.

Bush/Giuliani: 359
Kerry/Edwards: 179

2005:

While swearing in President Bush Al-Queda launches a massive terrorist attack on Washington DC by dozens of suicide bombers. While most of the attack is prevented some small pockets go off killing under 50 people, among which, Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich. The year goes by regularly quietly with several major protests against the US in Ontario, Canada and France and a couple hundred thousand of new jobs being created and unemployment falling to 4.6%.

2006:

When Congress reopens President Bush introduces three monumental bills. The first to activate the National Guard and round up all illegal aliens. in the US and sending them back to Mexico along with sealing off the southern boarder to all illegal traffic and to shoot anyone on site no questions asks. The second is to have a vote in Puerto Rico for either statehood or freedom, no “stay the way we are” vote allowed. The third is to ban abortion from 8 weeks on, the reason is that the fetus gets a heartbeat at that date and nothing without a heartbeat is alive. Debate rages on all three issues and the Puerto Rico bill easily passes by early July. Meanwhile Israel launches massive attacks on Palestinian settlements in early February and has succeeded in driving most of them out of Israel and into Syria.

2007:

Puerto Rico votes in mid-March and the vote is overwhelmingly in favor of Statehood with a vote of 98% for statehood to 2% for independence. Puerto Rico becomes the 51st state on April 1st. By late April Congress has grudgingly passed the last two bills and massive raids begin throughout the country. 30,000 illegals from all countries are detained and shipped back to their country of origin. The National Guard is now posted along the boarder with Mexico and is supplied with state-of-the-art military weaponry for the job at hand. Illegal immigration suddenly comes to a halt as the bodies begin to pile up along the boarder and the flow north begins to slacken. Most abortions also drop dramatically and the future looks in great shape. Rudy Giuliani announces he is seeking the Republican nomination for President in the 2008 election. A host of Democrats also throw in their names with none other than Hillary Clinton. By late 2007 Syria, Lebanon and Egypt have raised massive armies and aimed them at the heart of Israel.

2008:

Hillary and Rudy barely scrape thorough the primaries and caucuses with a majority lead of less than 15 delegates each. Both candidates pick their Vice Presidential candidates early in the election, Hillary with her husband, Bill Clinton, and Rudy with Jeb Bush. Nader also announces that he’ll run for the Progressive Party yet again and throws a surprise punch by nominating Howard Dean as his Vice Presidential candidate.. Israel’s armies have defeated the three opposing nations by early July and completely annexed all of Syria and Lebanon and all the Sinai Peninsula. The campaigning goes on as normal with Hillary’s popularity falling throughout the campaign. On election day Puerto Rico votes for the first time and it comes in at a complete tie early in the night. With Congress still in cession and still in Republican hands they quickly vote for all the electoral votes to go to Rudy. In the end the election throws a major surprise winning Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey and Delaware.

Giuliani/Bush: 408
Clinton/Clinton: 94
Nader/Dean: 44

Rudy wins in a virtual landslide and with Nader’s upset the Progressive Party gains federal funds and the US officially gains a third party!

Clinton/Clinton?Huh

Isn't Bill constitutionally ineligible to be Hillary's Vice President.

This is the third place I've posted this. And I'm not gonna stop till I get some decent feedbacks, so their had better be comments!

After not being allowed by Ike to start a war with the Soviets, or by Marshall to transfer to the pacific, Patton is lucky enough NOT to die in a car crash at the end of '45. He is later refused to fight in Korea. In '52, Patton- MacArthur (R) run against Eisenhower-Kefauver (D) in what becomes known as the Year of the Generals. Ike would almost deifinitely win this one, but campsigns hinge on little things. So let's have him lose. And voila, President Patton. Let the world tremble.

Patton forces a win in Korea but does not cross the Yalu. He will later back the Israeli-European alliance in the Sinai war, leading to an Israeli Sinai and a continued European canal zone. Patton sends troops to support Hungarain revolution on the recommendation of Sec of State John Foster Dulles; is disappointed when the Soviets do not respond militarily. Patton cuts many New Deal programs. He gets the USA into a war it wins in Cuba, and begins involvement in Vietnam. MacArthur hates being Veep, though he agrees with Patton on most issues he feels Patton hogs the glory.

In 1960, McArthur-LeMay defeats Kennedy-Johnson narrowly, and invades North Vietnam with force, crushing it. Soviet rule over Eastern Europe is growing tenuous- Yogoslavia under Tito, Romania under Ceausescu, and Albania under Hoxha exit the Warsaw pact. Romania and Yugoslavia become truly neutral, Albania allies itself withj China.

In 1964, citing failing health MacArthur does not run for reelection. LeMay loses the nomination to Goldwater. Goldwater-Thurmond defeat McCarthy-Muskie narrowly. Goldwater backs  the Czechs during the Prague spring, resulting in a restoration of Czeckoslovak independence and continued federation. At a secret NATO conference, Finland, Ausrtia, Hungary, and Czeckolovakia join. The USSR is outraged and, it is later discovered, nearly went to war. Goldwater also continues the Israeli alliance, backing them in a war in which Israel occupies Damascus, Amman, and Cairo, retreating to a Suez- Jordan- Golan line in exchange for peace with the Arabs. Israeli Arabs flee en masse again, as in 47-49 war.

The dems nominate Scoop Jackson. Jackson-Kennedy (Bobby) are able to defeat Goldwater, using his and Thurmon's opposition to civil rights and a neeedfor a change of party after 16 years of GOP dominance. In this TL, American military use has had tangible results, so most leaders in both parties, including this dem team, are quite hawkish. Civil Rights passed. Great Society does not happen. Jackson visits China, reopens relations. Pressure is put on South Africa.

Jackson defeats Howard Baker narrowly in 1972. Poland's Solidarity under Lech Walesa eventually forces a Communist withdrawal. Poland collapses, joins NATO. Soivets fear to war with USA, but attempt to regain prestige by allowing border conflicts to escalate into non-nuclear war with China. Soviets do well, taking much of Sinkiang, Inner Mongolia, and Manchuria before the front stabilizes. A Middle East coalition led by Israel, Sadat's Egypt, and Reza Pahlavi's Iran deposes the Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq. Pakistan and India negotiate differences, notably solving the Kashmir problem along religios borders.

Reagan-Baker elected in 76 over Kennedy-Carter. Escalates tensions with the Soviets, while at same time attempting to make peace between USSR and PRC. Eventually the Soviet Union collapses, and by 81 Bulgaria, Romania, Yugoslavia, albania, Mongolia, and China have collapsed as well. Various communsit factions in Africa officially realign themselves. In this era Reagan also won reelection in 80 against Miondale-Dukakis. Reagan also starts the WTO, its goals to reduce world tarriffs and quotas.

Howard Baker and his veep, James Baker, continue this policy after beating Gary Hart in 84. In 88 the Bakers lose an election to John Glenn and his running mate, Joe Lieberman.

Glenn finally abolishes the peacetime draft in 1993, this is what his presidency is most known for, other than continuing to advance free trade and cooperation worldide, and of course the space program. (See below)

On September 11th, 2001, President Lieberman and other world leaders shake hands at Manhattan's WTC as the world officially eleimnates the last rade barriers and adopta a common currency. The world is also in an official military alliance. Many are pushing for an eventual loose world government by the end of the decade. Lieberman and his veep, Jim Woolsey, sympathize with this point of view.

Presidents:
52-60 Patton
60-64 MacArthur
64-68 Goldwater
68-76 Jackson
76-84 Reagan
84-88 Baker
88-96 Glenn
96-?? (term ends 04) Lieberman

Also, our space program never stopped, we landed on Mars in 1980, currently have permanent habitations and spaceports at L5 and thee Tycho Crater. We are preparing to build one on Mars. International corporations have done heavy resource minig, etc in Antarctica, the Moon, Mars, and the asteroids, under the WSA's (world space agency's) aegis. Space is a major topic of inspiration to most people, and sci-fi literature is even bigger now than at the height of Heinlein, Asimov, Clarke, and Bradbury. The WSA is one of the world's most respected organizatrions. It has been headed by:

Yuri Gagarin 1980-1983
Alan Sheppard 1983-1987
Neil Armstrong 1987-1990
Buzz Aldrin 1990-1993
Arthur C. Clarke 1993-1997
ex-Pres John Glenn 1997-2000
Ilan Ramon 2000-???

Neil Armstrong and Nolan Ryan are currently GOP senators from Texas. Tim McGraw, the governor of Alabama, has recently wrapped up the Republican nomination and his opponent will be Sen Al Gore, who has beaten Vice President Woolsey. (Vice Presidents have never come to be viewed as heirs apparent in this TL. His first lady could be the Jackie of the 2000s, being considerably more attractive and just as glamorous.

Insider hint: I have it on good authority Gore has selected Evan Bayh as his running mate, and McGraw has selected Gover Giuliani of New York. We'll see how this plays out.

Possible future Presidents:

President Bill Owens
President John McCain
President Rudy Giuliani
President George Pataki
President John Edwards
President Joe Lieberman
President Condolezza Rice

ANYBODY FOR FUTURE DEMOCRATS? Only one I could see currently as presidents are Lieberman and Edwards.

Lieberman is too old, he also makes the mistake of too often defining himself in opposition to the left of his own party which is the same mistake that someone like Pataki or Spectre have made in the GOP only there it is the right within the GOP.

…Dems…

Edwards is definitely a possibility.

Mike Easley is someone people don’t notice but he might have a shot in 2008 or 2012.

Harold Ford if he wins the senate race after Frist steps down.

Ed Rendell if he can sort out PA as he sorted out Philadelphia then he will win re-election and become very quickly a very prominent figure in the national democratic party.

Mark Warner, if he continues on the broadly successful path that he has been following as governor and leaves office with good poll numbers (VA governors a term limited to one term).

Mary Landrieu.

Ben Chandler, he only recently lost the gubernational race in Kentucky but then won an impressive victory in the congressional district previously held by Ernie Fletcher and he has a style that could resonate well with voters at the national level but he would have to be elevated to the senate or perhaps try again for the governorship.

…GOP…

Bill Owens, a definite possibility.

John McCain only if he ran in 2008, if he didn’t he would really be too old, a terrible shame (imho he could have been a great president).

Bill Frist, perhaps but again he would have to run in 2008 or maybe at a stretch in 2012, but he is dull and given to gaffs.

Tom Ridge, perhaps, he certainly got the experience, rather boring to listen to though.

Ernie Fletcher, again needs some testing, but there may be potential there.

George Pataki, possibly but a Moore type candidate could run and divert some conservative votes while at the same time Pataki doesn’t have a great campaigning style but it all depends on who he was facing however even if he won he would still be unlikely to carry New York against a Democrat at a national level.

Rudy Giuliani, very unlikely but not impossible, if nominated and not up agasit a really strong democrat he could win, however  Moore type would run.

Condolezza Rice… not a possibility

I'm going to try and get my own 2004 story going over the next week or so, I'll make a separate thread for it.

The scenario will be that John Kerry, despite assumed good health, has a serious heart attack (God forbid)  while participating in a charity basketball game fundraiser in Boston, and is sent to the hospitable. In poor health, he is clearly unable to continue his campaign for President of the United States. The basketball game was one week scheduled before the Democratic National Convention, and the Vice-President has not yet been announced. Top Democratic officials announce that the Kerry delegates are free to flock to whomever they choose -- names begin to perk up within the party, and the race for the White House is on once again. . .
More to come. . . Cheesy

Herbert Hoover Strikes Back

In 1940 the Republican had had enough of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. They wanted a candidate who could beat him. Senator Robert Taft was too boring and too unelectable. New York Attorney General Thomas Dewey was too inexperienced. Wendell Wilkie was too unknown. The Republicans caught on to a “Draft Hoover” movement. Herbert Hoover had remade his public image by helping save millions of Finnish people in the Soviet-Finnish War. Hoover had also gained popularity by writing several books. The “Challenge of Liberty” made him popular with Conservative Republicans and Democrats alike. The Republicans nominated Herbert Hoover on the 3rd Ballot. Hoover flew to Chicago to accept the nomination. “I pledge to roll back the New Deal, due to it causing a huge national debt, a waste in federal treasure, and it’s opening the door to socialism.” The Republicans chose Thomas Dewey as the Vice Presidential nominee. Hoover and Dewey never really liked each other, but they got along enough to run a good campaign.

The Democrats nominated President Roosevelt in Chicago. “I beat Mr. Hoover once,” he said, “I shall beat him again.” To try to keep support in the South, Vice President John Gardener was not dropped. The Democrats denounced Hoover as, “A relic of the past.” Hoover decided that he would run a campaign that would do the one thing Roosevelt feared worst: Target the South.

Hoover campaigned in the South extensively. He traveled to all the Southern states and made pressing statements. “The New Deal has hurt you more than any other people,” Hoover told the people of the South, “It is a raw deal for you.” Hoover was popular with Conservative white southerners who were upset with FDR’s farm subsidies. Hoover was for Civil Rights, but he appealed to the Southerners by saying that civil rights would only strengthen America, not weaken it.

Blacks had voted for Roosevelt in 1932 and 1936, but many were upset with how the New Deal ignored their problems. George Washington Carver called the New Deal “A deal signed only for the whites.” FDR was no racist, but the New Deal did ignore prejudices against blacks. Hoover raised high the banner of “The Party of Lincoln.” “Lincoln was a man who freed the slaves,” Thomas Dewey told a crowd in Cincinnati, “The Republicans are not racist.” Blacks would come out in force for Hoover on Election Day.

Franklin D. Roosevelt campaigned for his new Deal. He warned Hoover wanted to roll back the success of the New Deal. “Herbert Hoover is against ending the Depression,” Roosevelt said in Tampa. “Mr. Roosevelt likes to say I started the Depression and then did nothing to end it,” Hoover joked. Roosevelt was running for an unprecedented third term. Hoover did not attack Roosevelt for the third term; he just said that 12 years of FDR would be poison for America.

World War II was raging in Europe. Hoover, being a Quaker, was opposed to war. He promised that he would not send American boys to fight in Europe. “I will only send troops over if we are attacked,” Hoover promised America. “Old men declare wars,” Hoover said, “It is young men who must fight and die in them.” Roosevelt was not popular with anti-War mothers. These people went to support Mr. Hoover.

On Election Day the Result was clear:

Herbert Hoover/Thomas Dewey: 53.2% of the Popular Vote; 344 Electoral Votes

Franklin Roosevelt/John Gardner: 46.2% of the Popular Vote; 187 Electoral Votes

Other: 0.6% of the Popular Vote; 0 Electoral Votes

In his victory address Hoover promised a new America that would be conceived in liberty and made free of New Deal socialism. Hoover had defeated Roosevelt and became the only president since Grover Cleveland to serve nonconsecutive terms. Hoover had been elected president again, and he felt happy once again.

No. Pearl Harbor still happens and America enters the war. Hoover did not like Hitler, he dispised him.

Hoover was the only president to meet with Hitler, in 1939, and he told Hitler to "sit down and shut up."

I will comtinue my timeline.  It is 1852.  Mexico and Britain have just defeated the US in a war, the US lost much land.

1852
In summer, pro-slavery and anti-slavery groups demonstrate in border states.  All are unhappy with the outcome of the war and in November, the Republican Party elects John Fremont the 12th president of the U.S.  by a large margin over unknown Franklin Pierce.

1854
Santa Anna's policies in Mexico cause Britain and France to brek their ties with it.  In August, an angry southerner shot President Fremont and Vice-President William Dayton in Virginia because of their policies against slavery.  On August 12, Dayton died, and Fremont did the next day.  On August 17, Speaker Linn Boyd of Kentucky was inaugurated President.

1855
Congress passes the Home State Act, which reads "Any one certified to vote in a state allowing unpaid servitude of persons may own unpaid servants throughout this country."  Republicans are scared that more such laws will pass soon.

1856
Fearing a civil war, Congress passes an Amendment to the constitution that says "No state shall be deprived of the right to choose whether residents of that state may own unpaid servants.  This fails to pass in many southern states.  In response, Maine, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Michigan secede in May.
In June, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Minnesota Territory and Wisconsin do like wise.
Many other states soon secede to avoid an electoral blowout.  On December 1, the Constitution of the America Union is signed in Philadelphia.  Millard Fillmore fo New York is chosen as president, with an election to take place next summer.
In the US, Linn Boyd and Jefferson Davis win the lection in a blowout.

1857
In June, Fillmore and Hannibal Hamlin win the election in the AU. Meanwhile, tensions mount between West Virginia and Virginia.  In October, Virginian troops invade West Virginia.  The AU declares war on the USA.  Mexico offers help to the USA.

1858
By January, combined US and Mexican troops have taken Iowa and are advancing into Minnesota and West Virginia.  Fillmore appointed William Sherman as the general in charge of the war , and Sherman was able to cause a stalemate in the east.  The Mexicans then sent a force to attack Minnesota.  In August, they marched through Dakota Territory (North Dakota)  and soon after, Britain declared war on Mexico.  Britain sent troops into nortern Mexico, and Mexico was forced to pull much of their help to the USA.  On the eastern part of the war, the AU was consistently losng ground in West Virginia and Indiana.

1859
In the spring, Britain sends a large part of its navy to block trade with the USA.  Meanwhile, they are losing ground in the West and they are forced to send more troops to Canada.  In May, General Robert E. Lee tries to split the AU by taking Ohio.  This tactic backfires when Union armies attack from behind and devestate Lee's army.  In winter, the USA begins to be hurt by the trade blockage, and the AU and British forces attack into Illinois and Jefferson Territory(Nebraska, South Dakota)

Shades indicate that a country controls that territory but does not own it.

1860
In March, the US troops are not yet hurt by the trade blockage.  Lee marches north into Pennsylvania.  In May, he  meets an AU army under the command of General Ulysses S. Grant, and the USA is defeated soundly.  Sherman then chases Lee into Maryland and advances to Washington.  In June, Fillmore and Hamlin are re-elected(the AU has elections every 3 years), and recieve little opposition.  In August, the government flees Washington, and John Breckenridge is elected president in November in a close election over President Boyd.  On December 30, Sherman enters Washington.
1861
Britain pulls many of their troops to the West.  They take Iowa and Kansas from the South and hold their stalemate in the far west.  As British troops enter Texas, they find small militias joining them against Mexico.  On May 11, Texas declares its independence again.  British troops march through Texas and begin to take the west.

Meanwhile, Grant takes Illinois and goes into Missouri and Kentucky.  sherman goes south, trying to split the USA in two.  He reaches Georgia on November 24, and stops for the winter

In Europe, Austria joins with many smaller German states after a short war
