Commune one, commune all to the Fall 2013 Labor Party Convention in Atlasia's hot, sweaty Butte!

Atlasia's greatest political party of all time gathers in the wonderful state of Wonderment to do the same thing as it did four months ago. We come to revise our methods of operation. We come to draft our ideals into a concrete, concise platform. We come to communicate with one another and become a more cohesive force. Perhaps most importantly, however: we come to begin the work of electing a President.

I would like to thank Adam Griffin for the the creation of our convention banner!

There are a number of items that we will address in the coming days – each of which are important and require your attention as a Laborite. These items include:

  • Adoption of Party By-Laws
  • Adoption of Party Platform
  • Labor Party Presidential Endorsement
  • Labor Party Senatorial Endorsements
  • Fall 2013 Convention Location Selection
  • Open Floor Discussions

As with any convention, it is important to have an orderly process. By my calculations, it could take the better part of a month to complete all of these tasks if we only do one at a time. For this reason, we will be conducting business side-by-side; not every aspect of this convention will be conducted at once, but if a particular item is taking too long we will begin working on another subject concurrently.

Due to this, I ask that all posts made by Party members within this thread use the following coded system when it pertains to your specific comment at the beginning of each post:

[BYL] - By-laws
[PLA] – Party Platform
[END] – Presidential Endorsement
[SEN] – Senatorial Endorsement
[CON] – Convention Location Selection

This will make record-keeping and reference for all much easier.

Radicalized bretzels, bread and roses - along with our convention's favorite of canine con carne - will be served by our robust steelworkers this evening as our guests check in, with formal activities beginning sometime tomorrow.

Pre-emptive statement:  There is more talk of introducing an apparatus to the party to expel members for various reasons.

This has become a case of "just keep proposing it until it passes".

I don't care how popular such a policy is, or how hard you make it to actually expel members... a party is made up of its members.  Allowing top members of the party to have outsized influence on deciding who should or should not be a member of the party is a nonstarter for me.  Furthermore, any process for allowing expulsion of party members is a nonstarter for me.

I refuse to be a member of a party that believes it can expel a member for any reason.  Call it an ultimatum if you wish, but this debate has been had numerous times and it still keeps popping up.

I won't support any effort to expel any party members and if it does happen, I will have to leave the party. I simply can't be a part of that, so I'm with Snowguy.

I'm with Snowguy on this as well. Party discipline is something I struggled with striking a balance on when I was Chairman but I've come to believe that no party should have a set mechanism for unceremoniously expelling people. It both sends the wrong message and is wrong in itself.
