Last year, it was held in the middle of the 2012 general election, so I don't think they did a straw poll.  In 2011, the straw poll results were:

Ron Paul - 36.9% (732)

Herman Cain - 22.5% (447)

Rick Santorum - 16.3% (323)

Rick Perry - 8.4% (167)

Michele Bachmann - 7.9% (157)

Mitt Romney - 4.4% (88)

Newt Gingrich - 2.7% (54)

Undecided - 0.7% (13)

Cruz wins the straw poll:

link

Cruz 42%
Carson 13%
Santorum 13% (just 1 vote behind Carson)
Paul 6%
Rubio 5%
Ryan 4%
Huckabee 4%
Pence 3%
Bachmann 2%
Perry 2%
Christie 1%
(misc. write-in candidates) 1%
Walker 1%
Jindal 1%
Bush 1%
Gingrich 1%
Martinez and Mike Lee got 2 votes each, which rounds to 0%
Brownback and Hillary Clinton got 1 vote each, which rounds to 0%

There was apparently a parallel vice presidential straw poll, where the top vote getters were:

History repeats from the 2011 straw poll.  A so-called "Tea Party favorite" comes in first, a black man comes in second, and Rick Santorum comes in third.

Assuming this is indicative of the Republican Primary electorate is like polling only whites for 2012 and acting surprised that Obama loses. Two years from now there will be no need to worry as many of these people will have self-destructed by then

So in other words, it's completely irrelevant.

What are the odds that if an imbecile like Cruz actually got the nomination that he would tap Carson to be his running mate?

I can't imagine Carson running or winning in the primaries, but his support from the grassroots seems to have been fairly consistent and high profile (unlike Herman Cain for instance, who was a flavor of the month thing).

We yeah, these are mostly hard core tea partiers. Although lately in general, Cruz has been rising among republicans, which is something I don't like. I like Ted Cruz overall, I just don't think he should be president, he's a good motivator, speaker, and politician, but I don't think he would do good as a president. On top of that he's inexperienced, just like Obama who ran for president 4 years after joining the Senate.

Rand Paul only getting 6% is pretty surprising. He needs to pull another stunt to get the Tea Party love agian.

l'll start on that point. I'm going to guess that "Secretary of State Hillary Clinton" made her sounds too respectable, although it begs the question why they didn't say "Former First Lady" instead, to remind everyone that she didn't divorce Bill after he lied about having sexual relations with that woman. After all, this was a meeting for the family values lot of republicans.

This. They're not trying to "downgrade" Clinton from Secy. of State to Senator. I agree that it's kind of ridiculous though.

Why would you think such a thing about people? Would you like it if someone said such things about you? If you're looking for family values why would anyone want an adulterer or her for that matter. You act as if she didn't know the whole time. So either she'd not very smart and had no idea he was cheating after having numerous affairs prior to running for president or she's lying and did in fact know of his affair(s). Can you please elaborate on what you mean?

This group is packed with religious conservatives who have long been cool to Ron Paul and his dovishness.  Cruz is rather undefined in foreign policy; he is not defined as an interventionist or isolationist yet.
