Went to some fancy family charity dinner yesterday. No, it was not a black tie affair, but there were a few there inexplicably dressed like so. Perhaps a consideration for next year.

Oh I don't think she's that type; I'm just being paranoid. She's on birth control, or so she says.

Let us know if there's a Lil' Duke running around in ~9 months.

That's a rapper, right?

I won a position in a largely fraudulent club election, but the person who needed to win lost.

"Opposition to our voter fraud is racism!" said the new President of our College Republican here, to general derision and bafflement.

Please don't do your grad school at the same place as your undergrad school.

Why not?

Teaching attendents already said then prospective employers prefers when the people they hire were exposed to two different schools (the mentality/focus is often different from one school to another).

No one outside of academia cares about that.

If you're going into academia then that is important. Otherwise if it's professional school I really don't think it is important.

I won our organisation's treasurer (technically finance director) position. I'm actually the treasurer for what, three groups? All political in a sense. And I'm the events coordinator for a journal, which has nothing to do with politics except for the fact that the Editor in Chief is a friend of mine who was cheated out of the presidency of our organisation, pretty much. I'm going to have to finnagle myself out of some of these commitments, I have no idea how I am going to find time to start my African affairs knock-off journal. Which would be a far better use of time. But first our organisation needs to figure out what's going to happen, the election was rigged and people know this.

If you're wondering why I'm posting this I'd planned to post in the "I lost an election" thread but it's more pertinent here.

Did you actually win the election this time?

I did. I don't recall which election I lost, but I know I won this one. But my friend did not.

Went to Republican function, met people I have heard of. Not too bad, although I lost half my cards on the way back. All in all an interesting and productive event. I need to go to more of these. Also everyone was wearing bow ties- truly these are my people! Oddly enough, I was wearing a long tie.

So I graduated from high school yesterday. The ceremony was...moving. Our class president took a selfie on stage in front of everyone which so far has over 300 likes on Facebook.

My job pays poorly. But it pays, unlike so many of these internships. It's unlikely I'll be taking a love cruise down the Dniester myself anytime soon, then, but I'm wondering if and how I should supplement my income. Perhaps something low-intensity but interesting (bow-tie salesman?). More likely than not it might be something at our library. I mean in all honesty I could probably be a passable adjunct at some CUNY college, but that's not... lol. I need ideas, and no, don't mention drugs.

I was hoping for some advice...

Meanwhile , slow going on the weight front. I got back from the gym, my arms are tired. Some lifts, pulls, whatever. Been trying to go every day,  alternating between upper and lower body. I started at 197-200, am currently at 191-2 (the scales can't make up their mind), and would like to get to ~175. It's not just weight, I'm weak and I know it and I'd like to develop some upper body strength.

Meanwhile there has been positive notes on the diet front. I seem close to actualising the oatmeal-cereal-celery-soup-tuna-? diet (? means I'm unsure about dinner). Wednesday was exemplary. I had oatmeal for breakfast, a tuna sandwich for lunch, and fish, salad, and asparagus for dinner. I need to eat like that more often. But I also need to avoid heavy African foods that I enjoy.

Paging Polnut.

Speaking of portfolios I've been keeping a fake one on Google Finance that has done rather well. I have the money, I should really put it in.

I saw a girl at the gym today watch the Food Network whilst on the treadmill. What does this mean? I feel like it says something about her. And I don't think a lot of my classmates at college would approve of it. And I've so thoroughly immersed myself in that culture I'm not sure I'm comfortable with it myself. Do people like that still exist in this part of the country? Is it indicative of a certain attitude or am I over-thinking this as usual?

Who said I had a cconnection with her? I just found it strange. Should I find it strange? Does this make me a feminist?

I was trying to be glib but let me more blunt. I was thinking she might be some sort of homemaker in waiting. And that was extremely strange to me. It reminded it me of the discussion I had with a friend who was at Tufts few years ago about how people apparently still used "gay" as an insult. At this point, it's an alien outlook on life. And I'm not sure how I feel about it.

Yes. I am jumping to conclusions. And yes, I'm being an liberal elitist despite not being a liberal. I ought to think well of homemakers. Yet the idea of young women in this day and age wanting to be one does not sit well with me.

I've lost like 10 pounds, but I don't feel any different. That is, I still feel rather... lumpy. I wonder how much I need to lose to start seeing a difference. I mean, there can't be that many pounds stuck in my gut?

I was hoping for commentary. Anyway, I'm here in the city but I find that many of my friends are not. And those who are here are not particularly outgoing or are infernally busy. So I'm wondering how to go out and be social...
