I remember staying up until 5 AM to see if Heidi Heitkamp, Shelley Berkley, and Jon Tester were going to win. I'm not nearly as invested in Herring vs. Obenshain, yet I'm still awake for some reason.

Herring: 1,098,388
Obenshain: 1,097,772

Difference: 616

Still 4 precincts outstanding

Yeah, this one won't be decided until December.

How dumb of him. All it's going to do is make him look bad. I doubt McAuliffe is kept up at night because Cooch never personally conceded to him.

A 32 vote lead, you can't make this up!

At this point, I'm REALLY glad that I voted.

I'm sure everyone who did a write in is regretting they didn't.

So if there are really 3,000 missing absentee ballots from Fairfax County, Herring needs to win them by about 70 to 30% in order to make up the 1200 vote deficit  (2,100 to 900).  I don't see that happening.

Barring another significant error, looks like Obenshain is the next VA AG to me.

Judging from the precincts these supposed absentees come from, I've seen people suggesting they could break 65-35, 70-30, or even 75-25. And it's still possible random revisions and errors could happen which help or hurt either candidate. This will probably go down to the wire.

Of course, this assumes that these absentees actually exist. So far they're still hypothetical.

Obenshain now has a 130 vote lead after the absentees were counted. But provisionals have yet to be counted. Dave Wasserman says Herring could net 122 votes from provisionals: https://twitter.com/Redistrict/status/398944289922617344

Let the litigating begin.

I wonder how those people who did write in votes feel?

If Obenshain loses, who does the GOP have as a Governor candidate for next election?

Ken Cuccinelli.

(Seriously)

If Obenshain loses, who does the GOP have as a Governor candidate for next election?

Bill Bolling if he hasn't severed all ties with the party by that point. Deeds also won the nomination for governor after losing the attorney general race by a similar margin as Obenshain.

Bolling would likely have a tough time at the convention. Allen is probably done with politics.

A name being floated around over at RedRacingHorses, who I think actually may be good, is Rigell.

Rigell wouldn't be able to win a convention either though. They selected E.W. Jackson for god's sake.

"Any questions?"

I have one: in what warped universe is Jim Gilmore considered a moderate?

I guess in the same one where Mitch McConnell and Saxby Chambliss are considered RINOs.
