They hit him with shoes, that should tell you a lot about them (let say it this way some specific cultures think that hitting with shoes or even showing the underside of a shoe is a extra insult against people). Also this started as a major case in the media, which saw it as a example of Swedish racism, but it was dropped fast in very few days, and while all the articles mention that the victim was Black and Ghanaian, not a single time the ethnicity of the perpetrators was mentioned.

This is actually true. I remember when it happened and most people were assuming the perpetrators were Swedish (that's what I thought until now - having read about it, the place where it happened is apparently an immigrant ghetto and most people seem to believe the gang was Kurdish. I haven't seen any confirmation of that though).
