I'm sure they were all very thankful for what they had.

I'm watching it right now and it's literally not even intentionally commenting on consumerism. It's about people who go overboard on black friday

Thanks for this. I may post it on the Facebook wall of a former classmate who posted a "I don't care how it's bad for the workers I NEED SOME JEANS I'm going shopping!!!!" (there was more to it than that but you get the gist) type of post earlier this week.

What's funny is that you're attempting to compare a comment I made about one episode of South Park, which may have been poking fun at consumerism, but was mostly making fun of Game of Thrones as well as the fact that people have actually died on black friday (consumerism doesn't always equal death, ironically enough)

That doesn't mean I can't hate capitalism.

Yes, it's here too. We celebrate Thanksgiving on a Monday in October, yet we still have Black Friday sales, despite it being a normal work day.  We also have the advantage of Boxing Day sales, which the US doesn't have, AFAIK.

Really interesting. I mean, people dying. S-T-U-P-I-D.

'Murica.

I have never - young, adult, no money, money, etc. - shopped for anything on Black Friday. I really don't get it, especially to this point. Stores now are opening Thanksgiving night, but there was a news clip about a Best Buy or some place like that where people were basically tailgating at like 3:30 in the morning waiting for the place to open. They surrounded the door, and when the doors opened this herd of people like animals just barreled through the door and went running, actually running, back the middle aisle. I thought, "Where are they even going?" It's bizarre and darkly humorous. It's also commercialism that's actually physically making a normal environment dangerous.

Add this to my list of why I hate how Christmas has become more about "stuff" and less about real gifts: family, friends, life, etc.
