Okay, so here is a 'hack' I found a month or so ago.

I'm the guy who got the ridiculous world record for Donald Trump on Normal. (all 50 states including DC, Popular Vote at 99.87%).

basically, I found a way to adjust the difficulty weightings for each setting.

Step 1: Pick any scenario, Presidential Candidate, and Vice Presidential Candidate

Step 2: before you select the difficulty setting, right click anywhere on the browser screen and click 'View Page Source'

Step 3: CTRL-F "difficulty" - you should get to this line. Copy that line

campaignTrail_temp.difficulty_level_json = JSON.parse("[{\"fields\": {\"multiplier\": 1.1, \"name\": \"Easy\"}, \"model\": \"campaign_trail.difficulty_level\", \"pk\": 1}, {\"fields\": {\"multiplier\": 0.97, \"name\": \"Normal\"}, \"model\": \"campaign_trail.difficulty_level\", \"pk\": 3}, {\"fields\": {\"multiplier\": 0.95, \"name\": \"Hard\"}, \"model\": \"campaign_trail.difficulty_level\", \"pk\": 4}, {\"fields\": {\"multiplier\": 0.9, \"name\": \"Impossible\"}, \"model\": \"campaign_trail.difficulty_level\", \"pk\": 5}]");

Step 4: Right click anywhere on the browse and click 'Inspect Element' . Go to the Console.

Step 5: paste the difficulty setting line onto the console, but before you press enter, feel free to adjust the numerical value of any of the difficulty settings.

For instance, if you want to make the game so effortlessly easy (basically, you have mind control powers on the entire nation), change the 'Easy' multiplier as follows

campaignTrail_temp.difficulty_level_json = JSON.parse("[{\"fields\": {\"multiplier\": 1000.1, \"name\": \"Easy\"}, \"model\": \"campaign_trail.difficulty_level\", \"pk\": 1}, {\"fields\": {\"multiplier\": 0.97, \"name\": \"Normal\"}, \"model\": \"campaign_trail.difficulty_level\", \"pk\": 3}, {\"fields\": {\"multiplier\": 0.95, \"name\": \"Hard\"}, \"model\": \"campaign_trail.difficulty_level\", \"pk\": 4}, {\"fields\": {\"multiplier\": 0.9, \"name\": \"Impossible\"}, \"model\": \"campaign_trail.difficulty_level\", \"pk\": 5}]");

note how I changed the number from '1.1' to '1000.1'

Step 6: Play the game on whatever difficulty setting you adjusted. Laugh at how ridiculous the results look like. If you don't want to interfere with the Hall of Fame results, just stick to adjusting the 'Easy' difficulty multiplier.

Using this trick, I've won games as George Wallace, Ralph Nader, etc (all 50 states too). Notably, if you do this in the 1860 scenario as Lincoln, you still won't win any of the southern states because he isn't on the ballot. A funny glitch occurs though where one of the other candidates gets negative electoral college votes.

Modified difficulty of Stephen Douglas to 3.0 (makes it realistic to win outright but can probably still lose with this type of modifier):

I'm not sure how to do this. I have Google Chrome, and despite my efforts, nothing appears to have changed. How exactly this shortcut work?

I was given a tutorial video for this hack on AlternateHistory.com that works for Chrome. So I know how to use it now.

Ever since Jesse Helms became president in 1980, America followed down a path of voting suppression and civil rights restrictions that while not looking blatant, had a major negative effect on American democracy. By the year 2016, the Republican Party had near total-control in almost every state (besides now-swing areas of the states of California and Hawaii, and the northeast), and had won presidential elections with >60% for the past 20 years.

Then, in a surprise, outsider Donald Trump won the Republican nomination, and everything changed. Nominee Donald Trump began to make gaffe after gaffe, irrational policy statements, and everything else. The normally-safe election began to unravel. What was initially a 25-point lead became a 15-point lead became a 5-point lead became too close to call. And on election night, unheralded Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton pulled off a massive electoral upset, winning the electoral college by a mere 593 votes in the state of Virginia.

Hillary Clinton/Someone Else (D): 274 Electoral votes, 49.64%
Donald Trump/Scott Brown (R): 264 Electoral votes, 48.09%

https://www.americanhistoryusa.com/campaign-trail/game/720312

(Ran it on Easy with a difficulty modifier of 1.5 and intentionally tried to lose the election)

Played 1916 as Wilson in normal and tried to be as progressive as possible. Won the popular vote but ended up losing the election.

1896:

Fmr. Representative William Jennings Bryan (D/Populist-NE)/Governor Horace Boies (D-IA): 7,043,911 votes, 50.51%, 231 EV
Fmr. Governor William McKinley (R-OH)/??? (R-??): 6,588,161 votes, 47.24%, 216 EV
Fmr. Governor John Palmer (ND-IL)/Fmr. Governor Edward Bragg (ND-KY): 133,057 votes, 0.95%, 0 EV
*Baptist Leader Joshua Levering (P-MD)/Fmr. Mayor Hale Johnson (P-IL): 130,987 votes, 0.94%,0 EV
*Activist Charles Matchett (SL-NY)/Activist Matthew Maguire (SL-NJ): 34,989 votes,
 0.25%, 0 EV

*Reverend Charles Eugene Bentley (NP-NE)/Activist James Southgate (NP-NC): 13,679 votes 0.10%, 0 EV
*Other: 1,571 votes, 0.01%, 0 EV

*not shown on the actual results in TCT, so I made a reasonable sounding number and adjusted percentages accordingly.

1896's election was a shocker to the nation. Bryan had adopted labor-friendly rhetoric that was directed at the midwest, while still being extremely pro-silver, successfully locking down the west and south. After locking it down, he did extensive campaigning with his VP, Governor Boies of Iowa, in the states surrounding Iowa. Eventually, the day of the election came, and Bryan sat near his telegraph as results were finally coming in. Iowa would become the state to tip the election, and after days of counting, Bryan was declared the winner by 532 votes.

Closest states: (less than 1% difference)
IA: 251,306-250,774-2,293-2,032-322-94-2
DE: 18,913-18,693-555-498-71-18-1
ND: 23,014-22,717-163-148-36-14-2
WV: 100,444-98,648-890-829-54-26-3

i'll add states that were less than 3% difference soon (OH, MI, MN, IL, MD) but I want to work on my TL right now

Because in reality, both candidates in real life had everything in their power to win in a landslide, it was just a matter of who could do it first

Im trying every election on every difficulty on every candidate to see how well I do on all levels putting in my best effort. First will be Clinton 2016 Easy

https://www.americanhistoryusa.com/campaign-trail/game/748780

To be honest, I'm impressed Trump even does this well in this timeline. He still easily broke triple digits, and 'only' lost by 12 points
