I watched Rather on Election Night 2004 and although I was sad from the results, he had me laughing my ass off.

Yeah, Rather was on a roll. I like the one about walking through a furnace in a gasoline suit.

Even tho I'm not sorry to see him go, I hope he does election night coverage in 2008.  It wouldn;t be the same without his election night Ratherisms.

I flipped between FOX, CNN and CBS.  CBS is there just for Dan Rather and his Ratherisms.

Makes one wish he ahd said "Those exit polls were phonier than the Bush National Guard memos."

WOuld have been a great way to deal with teh situation with humor.

In my case, it was to get accurate results.

Yes, they are all real.  Dan Rather was in many ways a terrible newsman, but he understood how to be entertaining.

"Our decision not to call Ohio for yhe President has nothing to do with political bias, and everything to do with getting it right.

We are dedicated to the highest standards of professionalism and accuracy, and to get it right, rather than get it first, is our most important obligation to our viewers"

Actually, it had nothing to do with both political bias or loyalty to their viewers with accuracy. It had to do with them not wanting to get their butt kicked rather publicly for miscalling another election, even if it was a surprise comeback.

"We used to say if a frog had side pockets, he'd carry a handgun." is my favorite, though, because I have no idea what it means and gives me a great mental picture.

Rather gets more 'folksy' as the night wears on.  It could be the effects of lack of sleep on an old guy, or that his medication needs adjusting.

What a terrible loss that Dan Rather was railroaded out by the right wing media.  What a fun guy!

What on earth does that mean, anyway? Is it a comment on your country's firearm culture?

I think the meaning was similar to 'if wishes were horses, beggars would ride'.  As in someone says 'If Kerry had 120,000 more votes in Ohio he would be president', so Dan says 'Well, if a frog had side pockets, he'd carry a six-shooter!'

You just can't help bashing CBS. You probably think they should be more like Fox. Fox really scooped the other networks on the pope's death, they reported it a day he actually died.

Hey Fraud, everyone was reporting that he pope had died when he hadn't. And actually we really DON'T know when the pope died. He could have died then but no one will ever know for sure.
