Would you say that if a footballer had done an actual Nazi salute? (Anyway, at least in the UK, it isn't the state, it's the Football Association.)
Of course not, but my point is it is not a Nazi salute, so the punishment is outrageous.
But it can't be an example of "European nanny-state politics" if it isn't even being done by the state. If an NBA/NFL/MLB player did something that the league thought was racist the league would definitely punish the player.
