He may have been a good rags to riches story, but as President he was pretty bad. Passed the 1850 Compromise which planted the seeds for war.

Interestingly enough, Utah's first territorial capitol was a little town called Fillmore, before changing to Salt Lake City. I'm fairly sure we named the capitol Fillmore to try and persuade him to give us the gigantic "State of Deseret" that Brigham Young wanted.

Anyway, Fillmore is an HP in any case.

Perhaps one of the worst persons to become President.

It would've been one thing if he just quit with his horrible moderate hero presidency that bent over and took it from the slavery powers.  However, the man had the audacity to further his awfulness just four years later when he ran on the party line for one of the worst parties in American history that advocated for proto-Nazi regulations on immigrant Americans.
