We'd like to open a new thread for this. The purpose is to introduce this text as an amendment so that it may more readily replace the Third Pacific Constitution. So wouldn't this be the Fourth Pacific Constitution?

I will update this, of course, but I see no issues with Sections I and II. I have edited the rest, so we can deal with those after this, then put the whole thing together. Baby steps, people. Any problems with Sections I or II? I see none.

EDIT: See Reply 10 below.

I don't think the bill amendment fits into one post, so I'll eventually have to delete this post, but I believe that all of the amendment, with the exception of the bill of rights, fits into one thread.

That's fine. Tomorrow or the next day I'll post III through the rest of it, I'm just trying to take it in more than one step so we can break down tasks from one big one to a few smaller ones.

The Fourth and Fifth Constitutions have already been enacted. This would be the Sixth.

This is an amendment, not a new constitution.

This is simply an amendment replacing the current text in its entirety. It is technically not a new constitution.

Here comes Section III. Issues?

Also, the 4th and 5th Constitutions were invalidated, so this is either #4 or #3A, it would seem.

Ooooookay. . .

. . . Here comes Section IV.

Clauses 2 and 5 conflict, so I struck 5 in favor of 2. At this point a lot of my edits are for expediency and for streamlining.

24 hours have passed without objection. You can declare the amendment adopted, DemPGH.

What may or may not be DOA in this Council will depend on the final requirements outlined in the stimulus bill rather than the (very) temporary emergency measures I've taken.

As I noted in the thread, I've since been informed that Nix's executive order banning fracking is still in effect, so at least on that point there is no actual change.

Section VI is the Bill of Rights. PJ, let me know what you want to do with that. I'll be out later today because there's a football party. Smiley

Looks good! Ban on life without parole is great.

Okay, we're done unless anyone thinks of anything else or notices awkward wording. So I'll leave it open a little while longer, then piece it together, and then bring it to a vote.

I inserted "elected" in II.4 to agree with what we set up in Part V.

Last call before a final vote. I want to get it right. Smiley

You might have better luck trying French and just maybe German, but my memory has faded, and if I do not get to run it through a translator it goes in the books as "Unrecognizable."
