The show just went from 30 to 100. Insane.

The ending sequence of last night's episode was incredible. It was one whole tracking shot from the house to the car!

I am probably done with this show.  The acting by McConaughey and especially Harrelson is excellent and I really wanted to like the show, but the plot has got less and less interesting and now feels like almost an afterthought.  It is basically all style and no substance although I knew that was a danger ever since Cary Fukunaga signed on to direct.  The show is good at what it is trying to do so if you like Malick and Fukunaga films you'll probably love it, but it just isn't my cup of tea.

I cannot fathom how one could think that there's a lack of plot or substance. Literally every scene is dripping with relevance towards the end goal and building onto something greater.

I'm also a bit frightened that one would imply that there's a lack of substance to Terrance Malick's works.

There are a few things wrong with the show (particularly the underwritten females characters) for sure. I can understand not liking it (or Malick's work) for a variety of reasons but I don't find that criticism particularly apt.

Just my two cents, I'm glad you are enjoying the show though Smiley  To each his own!

Dumb q, but is this available to anyone who doesn't have an HBO subscription?

This show is just so consistently incredible. That tracking shot was insane (and proved that this show can do action better than any of the action-oriented shows on right now).

It's funny, I expected that this episode would deal with the showdown in the woods with Reggie Ledoux but we aren't quite there yet. Fine by me. I just hope that they have enough time to properly wrap up this story in the next four episodes. Either that or Pizzolatto and HBO change their minds about making this an anthology series and get Matthew and Woody to sign up for the second season.

Every episode has been good although this last one felt a little bit down simply because if how intense the action was in last week's.

Really? On a whole, I feel like it was actually a lot better of an episode - minus last week's end sequence.

If this was a conventional television series, it felt like an episode that could've been a season finale.

I still liked it, but it was just Ep 4 had such a tempo while 5 was more inline with the rest of the season.  I'll probably rewatch this one again later this week and absorb it better.

Well, the thing most people expected to happen finally happened.

The Marty/Rust fist fight was entertaining (even though Rust was clearly holding back quite a bit).

Gotta be honest, I'm not sure I was diggin' that latest episode. I'll have to give it another viewing.

Probably the weakest one yet but still enjoyable IMO. Going by the preview for next week, we'll be right back into all of the really weird, riveting stuff that made the previous episodes superior to this last one.

Episode 6 of an 8 parter is usually the weakest. Its only use is to build up some plot points for the climax, which can be a downer following something as exciting as a second act climax and new third act plot that happens in 4/5.

Writing schools teach people that narrative builds on an 8 part structure and it creates some dead moments and cliche if you're aware of it. I try to suspend my disbelief but I see it often.  This series has its moments where it hits formula hard.

For example, romances are generally introduced in stage three and that's the episode where the Marty affair happens.

That black and white video was one of the creepiest things I've ever seen on tv...

Such a creepy episode. Loved it.

Here's the preview for the season finale (and what we must assume will be the end of Marty and Rust's story on the show):

So what odds do you guys give Marty and Rust of surviving this next episode?

Not high. I think there will be a definite end to their stories, although maybe not the case itself.
