Doug Duncan...

If Maryland Democrats "F" up and nomiante Mayor Martin O'Malley Im going to be Pissed (with a capital "P").  This may sound a little cocky, but Im fairly confident that Duncan can beat Ehrlich.  He is somewhat moderate and defintley more inline with the majority of Maryland citizens politically than Bob Ehrlich or Martin O'Malley.

A third party if a decent candidate ran.  If not, I'd bite my lip and vote Ehrlich.

Ive heard you say you dislike Ehrlich a couple times.  Why?

Did I hear right in that the Mayor of Baltimore wants to curb the rampant murders in his city by banning the posession of legal firearms?  Is that really his solution to curbing murders committed by criminals and thugs?

Crime is down in the city, but murder is up.  We have this "Stop Snitching" problem in Baltimore.  Alot of the local gangs and drug dealers have put out a DVD stating that they will KILL anyone who snitches on them.  Men, Women, Children, Grandmothers, it doesnt matter.  If I was Mayor O'Malley I would tell my police cheif do WHATEVER it takes to stop the murders and crime, period.  Start arresting people if they look at you the wrong way.  If someone is standing on the street corner past 12am arrest them too.  Eventually they will get the point.

NickG, slots are one of the very few issues you will catch Duncan to left of O'Malley on.  The main reason Duncan has come out against slot is, 55% of Maryland residents support slots, but only 45% of Democrats support the idea of slots.  Therefore, comming out against slots will help the underdog Duncan in the primary.  Duncan has alot of ground to make up because of O'Malleys name recognition and this is the issue that will allow him to be competitive in the primary.  O'Malley is running to win the general election and Duncan is running to win the primary.

I recently read that no Montgomery County candidate has won any statewide office in MD since 1915!  Outrageous...we are the largest county in the state!

Well, your due in 2006.

i dont really know much about duncan.  however, im assuming he is a lot better than o'malley.

just think--maryland may nominate two pretty big losers for top jobs--mfume for senate, and o'malley for governor.  they both will lose very badly.

They might lose, but neither will lose badly.  No Democrat pulls less than 47-48% of the vote statewide.  Plus, Republicans are running out of options for the senate seat.  It looks like nod will go to E.J. Pipkin or another unknown state rep. with little chance of winning even if my dog were the democratic candidate.  But I see your point, I dont care much for O'Malley or Mfume either.

i dont think mfume will get 47-48%...if the republican nominee is at least halfway decent.

mfume is a pretty radical person.

If he didnt he would get pretty close.  Blacks will come out in DROVES to vote for him and most partisan democrats in the state will vote for him just like any other democratic candidate.  But I see where your comming from.  Most moderate democrats and left leaning independents would take a REALLY hard look at the Republican candidate because they probably think Mfume would cater more to the African-American population rather than the entire state of Maryland.  Im undecided on this issue.  Part of me thinks he will favor the African-American community rather than the entire state, but I want to believe he will give equal attention to all Maryland citzens. What do you think?  Cater to African Americans or Equal?

Michael Steele is still undecided. Ill admit, Ive been wrong alot latley.  I predicted Sarbanes wouldnt retire and a couple other things that turned out to be wrong, but I truly believe Steele will not risk running on his own for a senate seat, which he would be a long shot to win.  He and Ehrlich are in decent to good shape for re-election and Steele wants to be governor in 2010.  I think he will run with Ehrlich again in 2006.
