When I read over this comment in an RRH thread the other day, I thought there was some truth to it:

Better to shed these red seats and put the money towards other seats. This frees up more money for competitive offense seats, including the ones that are open.

Yay! He's the only Democrat I wanted to lose. Smiley

Plus now money will be going to real Democrats and not government shutdown supporters.

Dems should punt. Barfield isn't going to cut it.

lol no. It also frees up money on the other side, so unless there's a big asymmetry it's a wash.

Also, it's funny that Republicans are considered delusional when they want to primary a "RINO" with a conservative in a swingy-to-blue area, yet Democrats openly endorsing Democrats losing seats is somehow reasonable.

Which party actually follows through more frequently--Democrats, or Republicans? There lies the difference.

Some trivia:

- 2015 will be the first time since Reconstruction that Bladen, Columbus and Brunswick counties will not have Democrat in Congress.

- Likewise, NC-07 will be the the final white conservative southern district to break its continuous Democratic streak since Reconstruction.

Good ideas, but I'm not sure; I've already started thinking about 2016 too!

Cooper should have the D nomination for Gov, as he's basically already running. To beat Burr, a Democrat will have to have high support in the urban areas; I think he might be too conservative to achieve that.

Some other options:

- McIntyre has a solid record on agricultural issues and could give Troxler a run for his money as Ag Secretary.

- Elaine Marshall will have 5 terms under her belt as SoS and may retire in 2016; if he wants to run statewide, this may be the safest option.

- Finally, I personally would love to see McIntyre knock of Dan Forest as LG.

Another one? Wow. Well this 60% R district is literally R+1. To recap some of these races recently where the incumbent has retired (or died):

FL-13 (special coming soon)
IA-3
VA-10
NJ-3
UT-4
NC-7

Best case scenario for democrats is probably D+2 with these, best case scenario for republicans is R+2. So I think it will be a wash in the end.
