(Note the name changes based on feedback)

John Adams' Federalist government easily won a full majority in Parliament and Adams was determined to carry on a full term as Prime Minister. The Federalists first task in their eyes was to build up the economy. In doing so, they continued to trade with both Britain and France, though Napoleon was a tricky opponent whom Adams distrusted. The choice to continue trading with both of Europe's biggest powers didn't really satisfy anyone. Hamilton and Jefferson both balked in the House of Representatives and both the French and British made threats if the young nation continued to trade with the other. Napoleon offered to sell Adams the Louisiana territory in order to pay for another campaign against the Coalition, but Adams, sensing that the Emperor was looking to sell discord between Britain and America, chose to turn him down which only angered France further as well as block many Representatives who believed in Expansion and America's "Manifest Destiny".

On the domestic front, the Federalists enacted strong anti-slavery legislation such as the banning of slave auctions as well as the end to the practice of kidnapping Africans to add new slaves. Democrats angrily fought the legislation and were successful in filibustering attempts to end slavery outright. Oddly enough some Tories who were worried about losing their money from the profitable maritime slave trade aided the Democrats over Hamilton's objections. Hamilton promptly resigned as Tory leader and the party tore itself asunder. Hamilton himself chose to leave politics all together believing the current political system not to be worthwhile of his time. He went into business for himself and peddled powerful influence afterward.

With the loss of the Tory Party, a new group could be born. They were made of an odd collaboration of anti-slavery men, expansionists, protectionists and radical egalitarians who were intent on creating a new free and truly equal America. Saying that Adams and the Federalists had not done enough to create a free and prosperous America and their platform was an eventual end of the monarchy for a new system. No one in particular liked the Liberty Party led by Pennsylvanian William Findley, but it boasted some of the best young talent in the House.

Losing several Federalists to the new Liberty Party, Adams found that he'd lost most of his majority and had to rely on continued attendance by almost every Federalist. The canny Jefferson thought the moment was right for the Democrats and introduced a motion of no-confidence in Adams' government which passed thanks to a heavy summer storm that delayed many Federalists out of Washington.

The campaign was a brutal one with Democrats accusing the Federalists of being British pawns and threatening to undermine America's best interests by aligning too closely with Britain at the expense of friendship with France. They railed against Federalist attempts to end slavery and continue the monarchy. The Liberty Party attacked both parties from the left.

The campaign at first began with Liberty fever, but as the established parties settled into their grooves considering that they had the advantage of party loyalties and more experience than most of the young Liberty men.

This is also the first campaign to feature colored campaign buttons.

There can be no freedom in the presence of monarchy.

There can be no freedom in the presence of monarchy.

Then you have a tough choice to decide on between Liberty and the Democrats as both support abolishing the monarchy.

I cast my ballot for the Liberty Party, naturally. Smiley

Shame. I'd have liked to see the House of Washington prosper ever more. Ah, well, I suppose it's goodbye to King George II. His daughter, the potential Queen Mary, married Robert E. Lee, and her son George Washington Custis Lee fought in the Confederate Army, interestingly enough.

Can't wait to see him forced to watch while his slaves are freed.

With this vote, he might be one of the only Democrats re-elected.

The Federalists have made a late surge in the count it looks like. This could end closer than I thought.
