I approve of very few presidents from the mid-1800's. Buchanan is not one of those few.

HP

A coward who wasn't man enough to do the job he was elected for. Deserved his spot in shame because he didn't accomplish anything of bragging about nor deserves any respect for his Presidency.

Easily my pick for the worst President because he didn't do anything to prevent the break up of the Union, he let it happen and left it in the lap of his successor.

Pity FF vote as our state's only president (other than arguably Eisenhower) as well as being from my county. Obviously a terrible president though.

Buchanan really has no good qualities as chief executive. The Utah War, the Morrill Tariff, massive corruption, the Star of the West debacle and his meddling in the case of Scott v. Sanford are simply some of the worst decisions a president has ever made.

I believe President John F Kennedy thought he wasn't too bad.

I believe President John F Kennedy thought he wasn't too bad.

What Kennedy thought was that nobody had the right to truly judge a President, 'even poor James Buchanan', unless they'd felt that same kind of burden themselves. That's an understandable position to take, but if we're going to take it then we shouldn't be having this series at all.

This, plus he failed utterly in trying to mend North and South relations.

I assume that Cassius might have voted FF for James Buchanan. That does not surprise me, given the views that Cassius has on many issues.
