I saw excerpts from a Kerry speech on oil on BBC the other day and he said:

"I will not allow American soldiers to be hostage to American dependece on foreign oils" (these might not have been his exact words, but I think it is fairly accurately what he said).

I don't get that, what does he mean? He also ranted about the Bush admin being a government for oil, by oil, etc.

What's all this oil stuff? I just think about conspiracy theories as soon as someone starts to talk about oil...

Everyone knows there's no alternative to dependence on foreign, mostly OPEC oil.  Kerry knows this.  Its just campaign rhetoric.

Now if someone would make *taking back* the oil part of their campaign..

He doesn't mean anything as usual he is just saying it because some advisor told him it would sound good.

The thing is most of our oil DOESN'T come from OPEC. It's a non-renewable resource and thus prices are going to keep going up no matter what they do. It's not really Bushs' fault it's not really anyones fault. The U.S. uses almost 4 barrels for every 1 it imports on a daily basis.
