I've always wondered why there is such a large Caribbean population in New York when the climate is a hard adjustment.

Are you asking what percentage of the population is of Caribbean origin or why there is a large Caribbean population in NYC.

Of the non-Hispanic Black population, probably 40-50% are of Caribbean origin.

If Puerto Ricans and Dominicans are included too, it seems reasonable to say around 20-25% of NYC's population can trace roots to a Caribbean island.
