Condoleeza Rice would have been a really cool pick. I think she might have been the only choice who could reverse Bush's sagging approval numbers because of her strong defense of his foreign policy. If they shouldn't be that connected to the Bush administration, Pataki, Bloomberg, or Christine Todd Whitman would all be pretty good.

John Thune came to mind. T-Paw certainly was the most vetted candidate, versus Sarah the Clueless. My choice would have been Crist or Lieberman, after pledging a 1 term limit as a "unity" pledge, the problem would be the base's turnout. Only problem with Condi is that she was to closely associated to the Bush Administration, which by the Veepstakes, McCain had already tried to run from.
The base liked her more than Powell. I think she could have been successful enough in speaking that she could have boosted Bush's approvals by 2-3, and McCain would make gains in Indiana and the AA vote in NC & VA. The sheer contrast between her and BIDEN at the debate would be great.

Overall, Rice means:
1.5% swing among white men
3.25% swing among white women
3.0% swing among black men
6.5% swing among black women
0.25% swing among Hispanic men
0.75% swing among Hispanic women
0.5% swing among Other men
0.75% swing among Other women
3.5% swing for Bush approval
