Don't really know much about him, but no one should be in Congress for so long.

What if Congress consisted entirely of Gandhi, Jesus, MLK, RFK, Lincoln, Thomas Paine, Ben Franklin, John Locke, Pope Francis, Jon Stewart, and Stephen Colbert?

HP. He's an NRA member and hunter who represents a district that went to Obama with about 2/3rds of the vote in 2012 and is terribly trying to get people to believe he's evolving on same-sex marriage now.

And apparently, this has been a Dingell seat in Congress since 1932, the FDR era. Dingell only even won it because his father died and simply took advantage of the situation, so he's literally trying to form a hierarchy with Debbie. We can't let him and he's far overextended his stay, yet says after 58 years in Congress, "I don't want people to say I stayed too long." I'll be so glad to see this guy gone and see a real Michiganite become Dean in John Conyers.

FF for sure.

Yeah he is a little more conservative than he should be for the district. Although the Wayne county part of his district (65%) isn't really that socially liberal it is blue collar working class. His pro gun anti SSM and not exactly for environmental regulations on cars is actually is quite in touch with a lot of the Downriver part (Wayne county) of his district. The Washtenaw county part, Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti areas are quite a bit more liberal. Obama won around 61% in the Wayne county part (barely under 60% if you take out Dearborn) and 77% in the Washtenaw county part, in 2008. He could vote more liberal since the Washtenaw county part of his district makes the seat very safe, even a 60% Obama in 2008 district is safe though. These numbers may not be exact as I basically recreated his district on Dave's redistricting app, but his district mostly follows city borders so it's like over 95% accurate.

I hope someone other than Debbie Dingell wins the seat though. Let someone new and not a Dingell win the seat. The Wayne county part is more of the district, about 65% if my calculations are correct. But the State senator from Ann Arbor is considering a run. She is what you expect for a representative for Ann Arbor. Rebekah Warren is her name, I don't know if a candidate from Wayne county will run other than Debbie Dingell. Dingell seems to have a strong base of support behind her unfortunately. A primary for this district actually happened before after the 2000 redistricting when Ann Arbor and Downriver/Wayne county were put in the same district. 3 term congresswoman Lynn Rivers of Ann Arbor ran vs Dingell in 2002 but lost. That district was slightly different as it also had Monroe county in it and a little less of Wayne.

First off, never heard the word "Michiganite" before. Secondly, who is an Ohioan to judge who a real citizen or resident of Michigan is? "Oh, Conyers is more liberal, thus he's more Michigan"? Whatevs, dawg. Christ. Was inclined to vote FF thanks to him being from Michigan and all, but now I know I'm gonna do so.

You are far, far more absurd than the average Teabagger when it comes to evaluating members of your own party.

Neutral.  Don't especially like his politics, but I admire and respect his longevity.  I honestly think people like him are a reason to not impose term limits on Congress.

What's to respect about that?

Just that he has experience and has served for so long.  It's almost like the end of an era to see him retire now.
