Changes from July 2007:

Gay Rights: An interesting way of phrasing it as I believe gays should have rights, however, these rights should be extended to the point of marriage or civil unions.  Well I hate the intervention of the federal government, if one state legalizes it, everyone will go there to get married and move back as appears to be happening. Lukewarm support for civil unions and opposed to national ban

Flag burning: I oppose in all circumstances and suppport a constitutional amendment undecided on constitutional amendment

Patriot Act: Neutral, however, I realize it has done a lot of good like stopping the Brooklyn Bridge plot Its overstayed its welcome, strongly opposed[/b]

Taxes: I support shutting down the IRS immediatley and replacing our current system with a Fair or Flat Tax system.  I would also cut massive amount of programs to account for these cuts. Would not support a Fair Tax

Space Program: Keep at current levels Drastic cuts

    Social Issues:

    • Abortion: Defend Roe. Ban partial birth abortion except in the case of the life of the mother. Have a 48 eight hour waiting period.
    • Gay Marriage: Total equality from marriage to adoption.
    • Affirmative Action: Make it class/income based.
    • Gun Control: We need strong gun control.
    • Death Penalty: It's barbaric. The justice system is fallible, we cant put life in fallible hands. End it.
    • Euthanasia: Regulated euthanasia to prevent abuse.
    • Prostitution: Regulated brothels. No street walking. Require protection and disease checks.
    • Drug War: End the war on drugs. Legalize soft drugs. Make drug industry government owned. Illegalize dealing.
    • Censorship: Censorship is bad. Simply make sure the audience is informed of any thing that could offend.
    • Civil Liberties: End the Patriot Act. No torture. No wiretaps. Defend Habeas Corpus. " Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. "
    • Immigration: Establish a way for illegal immigrants to attain citizenship. Require proficiency in English and paying a fine.
    • Language: Make English the national language. Require proficiency in English and only promise government documents in English.

      Economic Issues:

      • Healthcare: Move to a single payer system, and establish a National Health Care service.
      • Welfare: Welfare to work programs for able bodied workers. Generous welfare for the disabled.
      • Social Security: Reform it and increase spending. No privatization.
      • Education: No vouchers. Increase spending. Work to make College open to all.
      • Income Tax: Drastically increase taxes on the rich. Maintain status quo on Middle Class. Exempt very poor from taxes.
      • Corporate Tax: Keep corporate tax the same, but weed out loopholes.
      • Spending: Increase spending on Social Services. Increase government efficiency. Implement Pay as you go.
      • Minimum Wage: Establish a living wage.
      • Regulation: Drastically increase regulation in order to level the playing field. Decrease regulation on establish a new business however.
      • Infrastructure: Increase spending and work to renew our transportation systems. Support public transportation.
      • Energy Policy: An Apollo like effort for alternative energy. Increase nuclear based power in the mean time. No drilling.
      • Trade Policy: Scrap all free trade agreements.

      Foreign Policy:
      • Iraq: This is an illegal war. Pull out of Iraq and bring all our troops home. No bases.
      • Cuba: Open trade. Normalize relations. Support democracy in Cuba.
      • Israel: Support a two state plan in Israel, while supporting Israels right to exist.
      • Iran: Ignoring our enemies while making demands is idiotic. Meet with their leaders and normalize relations.
      • China: Work to better relations with China while also trying to end their massive exports to us.
      • Military Involvement: Attack only if attacked. Diplomacy should always be used and war should be a last option. No interventionism, we aren't the worlds police.
      • United Nations: Support the UN. Witholding our funds to the UN is an okay tactic to influence them.
      • Foreign Aid: End foreign aid until governments are established in the recipient nations that won't use it on Palaces.

      Other:
      • NAU: Support a North American Union, with the eventual merge of the US and Canada, and Mexico once its development is up to par.
      • Military: Cut military spending by 40% and reallocate funds to Social programs. Work on diplomacy rather than intimidation. Modernize the army into a smaller but more efficent force meant for self defense rather than intervention.

      Social Issues

      General philosophy: libertarian/mixed

Abortion: I support upholding Roe v. Wade. Keep abortion legal but ban partial birth.
Separation of church and state: support? But I think we are going overboard in removing religion from the public square. It's becoming ridiculous.
Marriage: State issue. I oppose a constitutional amendment and favor civil unions.
Affirmative Action: It's a racist policy. Get rid of it.
Gun rights: Background checks on guns and registration. No waiting periods.
Death Penalty: Support, but leave it to the states.
Censorship: Not the government's job. Let people decide on their own.
Flag burning: Oppose any amendment to ban burning it, but I could care less. I won't be burning our flag.
Hate crimes: Oppose any legislation. You can't prove any kind of hate...
Hate speech: How can we deem something is hate speech? It's a slippery slope to censorship.
Smoking: General support public banning since it can harm others.
Alcohol consumption: Keep where they are. No need to try to lowering it again.
      Euthanasia: Leave to states. Support.
      Drugs: Oppose legalizing drugs..
      Gambling: Support legalizing.
Prostitution: Legalize brothels. Street-walking is too hard to regulate and keep clean, so keep it illegal.
Embryonic Stem Cell Research: Support. I would rather it be privately funded, but use government funds if we must.
Immigration: Path to citizenship, secure borders, allow illegals who are not criminals to register and pay taxes.

      Economic Issues

      General Philosophy: Capitalist

Taxes: Keep Bush tax cuts but only if we are cutting spending. Do not raise taxes during a recession.
Employers and Employees: No protection for either side. Striking - legal, firing striking employees - legal.
Free trade: Strongly Support. Benefits everyone.
Spending: Cut military and entitlement costs. There is too much waste in the military budget and we do not need to be running a welfare service.
      Social Security: Privatize.
Space Program: I generally support our space program. We need it to remain a power.
Welfare: I support the reforms Clinton made in 94. It's a shame they are going away.
Healthcare: Universal healthcare for children and the poor. Many elderly don't need medicare (why does the government pay for my grandfather's health insurance when he makes $300,000 off dividends?)
Education: Increase funding, but give states more control over it. Our education system went to hell when the federal government got more involved.

      Foreign Issues

      General Philosophy: Neo-con

Democracy and Trade: Nations that trade rarely attack each other. It's good diplomacy.
United Nations: Pull out of the UN. It's a useless organization nowadays.
Iraq: Supported initially, but oppose now. However, we are winning the war there now and we need to finish it. Not the time for silly timetables and hurried withdrawals.
      Israel: Apathetic.

Social: Libertarian. I believe strongly in individual freedom, including the right for a woman to choose, the right to keep and bear arms, the right for a homosexual couple to marry, the right to practice one's religion, and the right to privacy. I also believe strongly in the separation of church and state.

Economic: I believe that small businesses and innovative fields like the "green" industry are what stimulate the economy. I believe their autonomy should be protected, and I support free trade. However, I recognize that consumers and small businesses need protection from predatory corporations seeking to create monopolies, so I advocate strong, transparent government regulation of industry.

Foreign: I am pragmatic when it comes to foreign policy. I believe in a world of shared self-interest. I also believe in spreading democracy, but through the power of votes and reformers, not through the power of bullets and bombs. I think institutions like the U.N. are good experiments but need a lot of reform in order to be effective.

      Social Issues

      General philosophy: Moderately Liberal

Abortion: Neutral. Work hard to find medical means by which to render abortion obsolete.
Separation of church and state: Support unconditionally. The day that an Atheist can be elected President will be a day to be long celebrated.
Marriage: Support gay marriage. I can accept civil unions in areas that will not accept full marriage yet.
Affirmative Action: Wronging people to make up for past wrongs is completely unacceptable.
Gun rights: It's a constitutional right. Limit gun ownership for convicts, though.
Death Penalty: Support in the most extreme circumstances.
Censorship: Not under any circumstance. Censorship is slavery.
Flag burning: Support of course. Non-violent political speech cannot be limited.
Hate crimes: Oppose. No one person should have greater protection under the law than another.
Hate speech: Oppose since it's unconstitutional.
Smoking: Public smoking is annoying, but it should be allowed anyway.
      Alcohol consumption: Same as smoking.
      Euthanasia: Support.
      Drugs: Legalize all drugs.
      Gambling: Completely legalize.
Prostitution: Legalize & regulate. Keep in brothels.
Embryonic Stem Cell Research: Support, though adult stem cells should be preferred given recent breakthroughs.
Immigration: Secure borders. Toss out any who commit crimes. If they have children here toss them out too.
Civil Liberties: These cannot be compromised.
Language: Making English the official language is pointless. To put things into perspective, it is already the official language of California.

      Economic Issues

      General Philosophy: Strongly Capitalist/Propertarian

Taxes: Combine with spending cuts to eliminate the deficit. Once the deficit has been eliminated or greatly reduced, cut as much as is possible while staying in the black.
Employers and Employees: No protection for strikers. If you can get fired any other time, you can get fired then too.
      Free trade: Unconditionally support.
Spending: Vastly cut spending. Re-evaluate the role of the state.
Social Security: If people want to privately invest all of their earnings, it should be their right.
Space Program: Supporting science is necessary to remain a major power. Generally support.
Welfare: No welfare for anyone who has been unemployed for >2 months. Phase it out.
Healthcare: Support free-market solutions. Allow unlimited importation of drugs from Canada.
Education: Greatly reduce funding. Offer vouchers to attend accredited private schools.
Minimum Wage: Tie to inflation and forget about it. Preferably leave it at a fairly low rate, so as to not inhibit business growth.
Regulation: Kill all regulations except for those prohibiting abusive business practices (mainly anti-trust/anti-monopoly). Devote the BBB's resources to warning consumers of dangerous business practices.
Infrastructure: Support. Good infrastructure is necessary for a strong economy in the global market.
Energy Policy: Favor coal, oil, & nuclear for the time being. Research viable renewable resources.

      Foreign Issues

      General Philosophy: Rooseveltian

Democracy and Trade: Trade is good. Seek free trade with all other liberal democracies.
United Nations: Stay in the UN. Do not acquiesce to unreasonable demands, however.
Iraq: Oppose. Ought to finish it off, but hurry things up.
Israel: Don't support them so strongly. We are endangering ourselves.
Military Involvement: Talk softly and carry a big stick. Attack only if attacked, but be ready to demolish any enemy.

      Social Issues

      General philosophy: libertarian/liberal

Abortion: Keep abortion legal but ban partial birth
Age of Consent: Reduce to 16 across the board
Separation of church and state: Support; eliminate the National Day of Prayer, and remove "God" from money and Pledge of Allegiance.
      Marriage: Support gay marriage
      Affirmative Action: Oppose
Gun rights: I support this measure, but we need to keep this as a state issue.
      Death Penalty: Oppose
      Censorship: Oppose
      Flag burning: Undecided
Hate crimes: Oppose any legislation. You can't prove any kind of hate...
      Hate speech: ^
      Smoking: I oppose public banning.
Alcohol consumption: Keep laws like these as lenient as possible
      Euthanasia: Support
      Drugs: Legalize all drugs
Gambling: Support legalizing across the country
      Prostitution: Support
      Embryonic Stem Cell Research: Support
Immigration: Secure the borders.  We need to make a path to citizenship for those who are illegal.

      Economic Issues

      General Philosophy: moderately capitalist

Taxes: Cut taxes as much as we can across the board.  I support the flat tax.
Spending: Cut as much waste as we can.  NO BAILOUTS.
      Social Security: Partially privatize.
Space Program: It's a nice service.  I'm a bit biased since I love astronomy, but whatever.
Welfare: I don't favor eliminating welfare, but there needs to be EXTREME amounts of reform.
Healthcare: I support medical savings accounts.
Education: Throw everything over to vouchers and charter schools.  Our system is a disaster and it's the only way I can think of that can actually help the system.  Increased spending won't help this at all.
Energy: Increased domestic and offshore drilling.  We also need to invest in alternative sources.
Corporate subsidies: End all of them.

      Foreign Issues

      United Nations: Get out NOW
      Israel: Support
Military involvement: Slash military spending, remove most military bases abroad

      Social:
Political correctness/Affirmative action: Scrap it immediately, it's reverse discrimination.

Education: Make Modern Foreign Languages compulsory for GCSE options again. Abolish school uniform.
      Healthcare: Increase spending.
Welfare: Slash unemployment benefits drastically for those who arent proven to be 'seeking work'. End building council houses.
      Minimum wage: Raise it.
Death penalty: Bring it back for treason, murder, possession of a firearm.
Drugs: Use harder methods to crack down on it. Shoot drug dealers. Raise cannabis back to Class B.

      Constitutional:
Devolution: Devolve completely, to make a federal Britain. Scotland, England, Wales, Ulster, Guernsey and Jersey should all have parliaments.
      Democracy: Direct democracy.
Voting method: Change to D'hondt proportional representation.
      Voting age: Lower to 17

      Economic:

      Social Issues

      General philosophy: Lean libertarian

Abortion: Oppose after first few weeks, except for the health of the mother. Increase funding and availability of contraception. Increase access to adoption and maternal leave.
Separation of church and state: Very important for both parties.
Gay Marriage: Absolutely support, though I would prefer if the government wasn't in the marriage business in the first place.
Affirmative Action: Oppose. Race should not be a factor in anything. Strongly oppose quotas.
Age of Consent: Oppose for sex. I support bracket laws of two years if under 18.
Gun rights: Generally support. Background checks are ok. Violent felons and mentally diminished people should not have guns. No ban on assault weapons.
      Death Penalty: Oppose.
Censorship: Strongly oppose in all cases.
Flag burning: Support. A ban would be an encroachment on the first amendment.
Smoking: Keep legal, but keep out of public places except those specifically made for such.
Alcohol consumption: Keep legal, but keep out of public places except those specifically made for such.
Euthanasia: Support. The only person who should decide when it is their time to die is themself.
Drugs: Legalize, tax, regulate, keep out of public places except those specifically made for such.
Gambling: Support. If you want to lose your money, that is your problem.
Prostitution: Support. Legalize, tax, regulate, keep out of public places except those specifically made for such.
Embryonic Stem Cell Research: Support. Especially for those embryos that would otherwise be discarded.
Immigration: Support. Anyone who wants to come to America should be able to. Make the process easier.
Illegal Immigration: Provide a path to citizenship for those already here.

      Economic Issues

General Philosophy: Moderate on trade, fiscally leftist

Taxes: Support progressive taxation. By living in this country, you implicitly agree to pay to keep this country running. If you don't like it, leave.
Employers and Employees: No protection for those who strike. If you go on strike, you do so at your own risk.
      Free trade: Generally support.
Spending: Support, but with much more emphasis on transparency, accountability, efficiency, and routing out wasteful spending.
Social Security: Remove the cap. Allow those who want to risk it to move their ss to the stock market. No safety net for those who do.
Space Program: Strongly support. If we had the money, I'd say build a space elevator and terraform Mars. Maybe Venus and the Moon too.
Welfare: Do not fund those who can work but choose not to. Limit to two years. Focus on getting them back to work.
Healthcare: Support some sort of universal system. Insurance companies are BS.
Education: Increase funding for public school system, which should be our first focus. Allow limited vouchers. Put stronger regulations on homeschooling.
      Minimum Wage: Support and raise.
Regulation: I support environmental, health, and worker regulations. We also must have some sort of oversight of banks and the stock market, but not control of.
Infrastructure: Support increased spending, but also increase efficiency and reduce waste.
Energy Policy: Move to alternative energy as soon as possible, including nuclear. However, the emphasis should be on wind, solar, hydro, tidal, geothermal, convection, and others. Also focus on fuel cell vehicles. No off-shore drilling.
Environment: We must protect the environment. Without it, we could not live. Support conservation efforts.

      Foreign Issues

      General Philosophy: Internationalist/Pacifist

Democracy and Trade: Trade is good.
      United Nations: Support.
Iraq: Oppose. Get out as soon as possible.
      Israel: Neutral.
Patriot Act: Strongly oppose. Repeal now.
      Torture: Oppose.
Military Involvement: None unless directly attacked. Slash military spending.
North American Union: Support if like EU. Countries should one day cease to exist. They are artificial boundaries that have come to separate more than just land. We are one species, and one day we must come together as one if we are to survive.

Yeah because obviously giving all kids a chance at an education is bad.

If it's a crappy education, then yes.

For all it's flaws universal education is still better than nothing at all. Believe it or not some parents don't have the time to home school their kids or the money to send them to pretty little private academies.

Whose to say that people wouldn't get educated if they didn't steal from others to get it?

Obviously some people wouldn't learn anything, because that's why we established public education in the first place. Before the late 19th century most people worked on the farms or the assembly lines. It's in part due to the establishment of public schools and child labor laws that we enjoy our current standard of living. And even that's struggling, because increasingly you need some sort of post-high school education in order to get most decent paying jobs.

Besides which, a large part of why private schools tend to be better is that they don't have to accept everyone. They can turn down people and their customer base is somewhat limited. If we privatized education completely instead of, say, implementing moderately free market policies like vouchers then there would still be terrible schools out there. Except they'd be bargain-brand type things which in addition to being sub-par weren't even affordable for everyone.

Also if we didn't pay taxes to provide for basic things like, say, police or sanitation I'm pretty sure most of us would be dead by now...

      Social Issues

Abortion: I reject the idea of abortion on demand, and I would strongly support a ban.
Separation of church and state: A nonsense term that liberals use to censor religion. While I do believe in freedom of religion, and oppose the idea of a national religion, liberals are going too far here.
Affirmative action: A euphemism for discrimination (no "reverse discrimination" nonsense), end it.
Hate crimes: Nonsense legislation, get rid of it.
Gun control: I reject it, the second amendment is not negotiable. It grants us the right to own firearms, and I oppose increases on firearm/ammunition taxation that try to chip away at that right.
Death penalty: Keep it as a sentencing option.
      Flag burning: Strongly oppose.
Euthanasia: I would strongly support a ban.
Prostitution: Must not be legalized in any way.
Immigration: Maintain immigration while enforcing against those here illegally and who have no intention to apply for legal immigration.

      Economic Issues

Taxes: Lower, flatter taxes across the board. Reduce as much as possible for everyone.
      Trade: Generally support free trade.
Spending: Reduce it as much as possible.
Welfare: When discussing welfare, we should remember this quote: "Welfare's purpose should be to eliminate, as far as possible, the need for its own existence".
Education: The public school system is a disaster, and that has nothing to do with money or the lack thereof. I am against mandatory public school attendance, and I support private schools (school vouchers included) and homeschooling.
      Regulations: Significantly reduce.

      Foreign Policy

Military Involvement: We must have a strong military to defend ourselves and fight the war on terrorism, and we should never put military action off the table.
United Nations: Negative opinion, but withdrawing is pointless.
      Israel: Strongly support.
      Foreign aid: Reduce it.

Abortion: I reject the idea of abortion on demand, and I would strongly support a ban. The only case in which it should be allowed is when it is necessary to save the life of the mother.

      Social Issues
Abortion: Not a major issue for me. Support Roe as precedent. Don't consider abortion in early stages murder.
Separation of church and state: Government out of religion and religion out of government.
Affirmative action: A bad idea on a theoretical level, but not the problem whites make it out to be.
Gun control: Right to bear arms is guaranteed by the 2nd amendment, but restrictions and regulations such as background checks and registration are reasonable.
      Death penalty: oppose
      Flag burning: oppose baning
      Euthanasia: support
      Gay Marriage: support
      Prostitution: legalize
Immigration: Make immigration process easier, offer amnesty to some immigrants.
Drugs: Legalize Marijuana and possibly a few other currently illegal drugs.

      Economic Issues
Taxes: Too poor to pay much taxes Smiley
Health Care: Too young to care Smiley
Trade: Continue to move towards more free trade.
Spending: Eliminate or reform ineffective programs and cut military.
Welfare: Should be strictly a temporary safety net and not a way of life.
Education: Support mandatory education. Open to reforms, but don't know enough about individual proposals to have an opinion on them.
      Regulations: Support antitrust/ monopoly regulations.

      Foreign Policy
Military Involvement: Oppose unless there is a clear danger to national security or a coherent plan is written for execution, occupation, and withdrawl is drafted before military engagement (even then only to prevent a massive humanitarian disaster).
      Israel: Support right to exist
