I could see Childers pulling off an upset if he decided to run on issues of poverty while distancing himself from the national Democratic party. If a Republican like Charlie Baker could win in Massachussetts then it isn't farfetched that a white Democrat could win in MS under the right circumstances.

Jim Hood is a Democrat.
