Reality television is made because dramatic shows with stupid people make networks money, and reality television has a large base of viewers because people tend to enjoy dehumanizing others as morally and intellectually inferior. Although those shows are scripted, many people tend to overlook that and act as if they are better than most others.

So no, I do not approve of reality television.

Depends on the show. They're wildly underrated tho.

Jersey Shore is obviously the greatest thing America has ever produced, so Freedom TV.

I want the update locked forever, why would I approve of a TV version?  I hate reality TV, always have and probably always will for the reasons Flo mentioned in his post.

Also as far as Survivor and The Amazing Race go, I'd argue they aren't reality TV, or at least what we think of as reality TV today. They're actually game shows, just very intensive and more involved than your typical one. So you don't really have to thrown in exceptions for them, or lump them in with the Jersey Shore/The Hills/Duck Dynasty/Honey Boo Boo/anything involving the Kardashians crap.

Well, the last season of Survivor had a wonderfully exploitative moment where a daughter was forced to vote out her mother. There was a spectacular amount of crying.

It's become one of my favorite shows on TV over the last year. I'm actually training to be a contestant.

Survivor and Amazing Race are more gameshow than reality, I think.

Huh. That's actually why I'm starting to dislike Survivor. And Amazing Race does have its reality-TV moments - there's a reason they brought Brendan and Rachel back this season.

What of it isn't bad? And as I pointed out before shows like Survivor and The Amazing Race are really just very intensive real world based game shows, not the same thing.

RuPaul's Drag Race is decent.

Just barely better than the fad for tattoos here there and everywhere on one's body that seems to be the in thing for the youngs these days (even "upscale" ones like at my uber-upscale Newport Beach gym).

Outside of Jersey Shore season 1, no. But that season was the most magical period of television I have ever experienced. I wish they had cancelled it before they became self aware though.
