Expected but actually very sad. A principled man with both evidence and argument to back it.

RIP Mr Benn (which is what he would have preferred to be called, obviously)

I’m sad to hear that. He was one of the last of the great British politicians.

Kind of news that are expected, yet shocking at the same time.

RIP.

A strange assertion, but RIP to Viscount Stansgate anyway.

Very sad, but this was expected.

A very important figure in recent British political history for all the reasons you're all aware of: one thing that's worth emphasising is quite how enthusiastic he could get about things. He may have been the only Postmaster General in the history of the position to view it as a worthwhile appointment: a great increase in the artistic quality of British stamps followed as a direct consequence. Seriously. But he was like that about everything.

His attempt to get the Queen's head taken off stamps failed though.

RIP

BBC and the Grauniad both have a good set of photos of his career:

Expected, but still sad. You may not have agreed with his views, but he was very likeable and passionate. RIP.

I was unaware he was ill. I'm sorry to hear this, even though I can't say I agreed with anything he really proposed.

One of Benn's 'crazy' ideas in the 1970s was for some of the money from North Sea oil to be invested in a sovereign wealth fund.

The main three parties still think it crazy...

If any of the three main UK parties were in charge of it, they'd be right to think so.

I don’t see why it is strange, but people obviously have different views of the man.
