The only candidate I can see causing a mass-breakaway from the GOP would be Muchael Bloomberg. Not that he'd run in a GOP primary, but I think the anti-gun thing alone would pretty much force conservatives out.

He's not a Republican, so that's irrelevant. That's like postulating about how Republicans would feel about Jim Jeffords '08 back in 2005 or 2006. Of course they wouldn't line up for him. Pointless.

I don't know. The Tea Party actually thinks its winning when in all reality it's losing in most places now after the damage it's done to the national GOP brand.

Ted Cruz or Rick Santorum might, but it is not that likely that they would.

This article speaks to why I think Common Core won't be a problem for Bush.  His likely base in the primary will come from the largest group who are somewhat conservative.  They're aren't going to be into the idea Common Core is some sinister plan to brainwash students.

If they wouldn't break away from Romney, they won't break away from any of this bunch of GOPers.

Oh yes it will be as bad as Romney where the GOP does just as well with evangelicals as they did in 2004. I'm telling you the tea party may get as many votes as in 2012.

People would stay home if Jeb Bush was nominated, it's going to happen.  You know he's pro Common Core right?

It is to your discredit that I cannot tell if this is a joke.

Ted Cruz or Rick Santorum might, but it is not that likely that they would.

Ted Cruz wouldn't go third party, he'd wait for Jeb to lose and then turn around and say it's because he wasn't conservative enough and set himself up for 2020.

Nope. The joke is on you, bro. Where were conservatives sitting out for "moderates" Romney and McCain. They didn't, they pathetically groveled and sucked up to the establishment as they always do. Until you guys grow a pair, don't expect us to take you seriously.

The thing I like about this forum is that most people don't resort to partisan attacks, name calling or condescending posts; most posters offer analysis or comments.

Those of you that do the former ... suck.

hopefully. I'm not known to throw the words "RINO" and "democratic-lite" around often, but Jeb fits such a characterization. Parties are supposed to nominate people who will carry the ideological flag. Jeb would not.

There will be a conservative third party candidate on various ballots no matter what.

I don't think the libertarian/ constitution party folks will be able to get much traction, just because the conservatives are typically energized against Hillary Clinton or whoever the Democrats nominate.

Jeb may be vulnerable to dynasty charges, and spending increases under his brother. And he is strongly associated with Common Core.

But I don't expect a scenario with strong enough third-party opposition to make a difference in all but the closest races.
