i'm curious to see how everyone would identify themselves within the Democratic Party were it as dominant as it was forty years ago.

and for future reference:

by economically conservative,  i am referring to those who favor free trade, and are open to private accounts in Social Security, and favor further tax cuts for businesses as well as individuals coupled with cuts in government programs -aka, those who style themselves as 'fiscal conservatives'.

on the other hand, economic liberals believe the government can be used for benevolent purposes like assisting the less fortunate.  while it doesn't mean the government should step in and actually run businesses, this generally means an expansive government with programs to help the poor, the elderly, the very young, the sick, and other vulnerable members of our society, and to mitigate the sometimes harsh effects of the free market economy through regulations to protect the consumers of the goods produced by the economy.  they favor a progressive income tax, and support allowing workers to form and enter into unions.

the socially liberal and conservative labels should be self-evident.

Isn't this really just the same as asking people what ideology they are? I guess I would be the libertarian wing, with some conservative leanings...

If I were in the party, the libertarian wing. But I'd STILL be in the Libertarian Party. The Democrats couldn't maintain their one party status forever.

Progressive, with some Centrist leanings on social issues.
