Our elections might actually be interesting... Smiley

Who are our candidates for senate, and do we have any gubernatorial candidates yet?

(in front of a school in Minnesota)

ILV: Hello crowd, members of the press.  I am here to announce... my campaign to become the next Governor of the Midwest region!

(cheering erupts in the crowd!)

Heckler: Why are you running if you have never served in politics before?

ILV: Is it not true that I have served this region unswaveringly as a person off the street?

Heckler: Good enough for me.

ILV: (points at school) The kids in there are struggling under the burden of uneeded tests and insufficient materials!  The teachers in there are struggling against the burden of a high teacher to student ratio, so they cannot give the students the one-on-one attention they deserve.  We need to change that!

(wild cheering!)

ILV: People everywhere are struggling to make ends meet!  It's time to bring back the people to government!

(more cheering!)

((Wimpy, I know.  Oh, well.  As you can see, education will be the focus of my candidacy.))

Hi, regional members...

When are we going to have our regional election?

I think sometime early in May would be good, followed by voting on presidential elections so we have spiffy things to do on that day besides voting for President! Grin

Well, I am in the governor's race. It surprised me that I was named for governor.

I will make my party proud.

These are interim regions. The new Senate will determine the official and final ones.

yes, but the idea was to have 5 regions that have  about the same EV in real life and 5 districts with about equal numbers of atlas registered voters

It was a long fight...

As senator for the region (thanks again guys Smiley) I feel I should point out that it would be a great honour to have the first governor in the forum, and it would also stop any problems arising re;governor appointing treplacements if at any time in the near future I would leave my seat for any reason.

So I suggest the earliest practival date, PBrunsel's 1 of May (obviously until the 3rd).

just me two cents Smiley

I'd like to propose that the Midwest enact preferential voting for regional elections Smiley

Now how shall we go about passing it... hm...

Also, let's get a timetable for our gubernatorial elections (as long as they exist Wink)...

Ideas:

-At the same time as presidential elections
-At the same time as regional senatorial elections (as long as they exist)
-At the same time as district senatorial elections?!?
-Between presidential elections and regional senatorial elections

As the Constitution currently stands, I believe Regional Senatorial elections are concurrent with Presidential elections.  The District Senator elections are the "mid-terms".

I would suggest we have the Governor's election concurrent with the mid-term (district) election.  This will spread out the elections more evenly for voters.  Also it's pretty close to when we actually elected ilikeverin as Gov.

I don't know if you intended to put this to a vote, but I oppose preferential voting (and would have voted against the bill that passed the Senate, if I were a member).

Hey Ilikeverin, why don't you draw us up a regional Constitution?  It'll give you something to do as Governor.  Cheesy

Keep it simple, though...you know me, if you put too many rules in the thing I'll have to sue people when they break them.   Cheesy

I think all we need is when Gov elections happen, election rules, and powers of the Gov.  We're not creating any other regional offices, right?
