Not considering that the Portland area is voting almost entirely Democrat at this point. In order to have moderate GOP influence from large cities the national party has to be at least somewhat attractive in the suburbs like it still is in suburban Columbus and Cincinnati, suburban Milwaukee, suburban Los Angeles and Phoenix. Not the case in Portland and several other cities that formerly had incredibly centrist suburbs, Chicago included.

Its interesting because the Republicans elected in the state were all moderates, but took some positions that were directly to the left of some Democrats in the state (For example: Hatfield was against Vietnam, his first Senate opponent, Robert Duncan, was for it, Packwood supported civil rights legislation, was pro-choice and pro-gun control, and voted against Clarence Thomas).

Geographically polarized too! Although Oregon Republicans have been irrelevant for some time. Hes fun to make fun of, but Dino Rossi was able to make some decent showings even if he didn't win. And they had the AG and SoS for quite a while as well.
