After just gazing through Trump's ontheissues page I think his key to some electoral success, as an independent or third party candidate, would be to play the role of Pat Buchanan or Ross Perot and champion economic protectionism along with fiscal conservatism.  If he stays on message about these issues then I would imagine that he could do well with blue-collar whites and high-school educated whites in the Rust belt and South.

Wow...

Trump is, in large measure, the candidate of the Perot Republicans.  Only this time, the Perot Republicans took over the GOP rather than trashing it.

Yes, the Republicans should nominate Trump.

It'll be like 1984... just in reverse.

Reading these kind of posts never grows old.

The real question is...if Trump is nominated, will he win?

Nope. He will fail big time, lose all states.

Makes sense. I bet someone like Jeb Bush will win.

Yep. He is the republicans best hope.

The big question...will Bush or Clinton win?

I assume some of this stuff is said "tongue-in-cheek".  Especially the Bush or Clinton line.

In all seriousness, I suspect that 2020 will show America the full advantage of incumbency a President enjoys in a re-election campaigns, as well as those limits.  It will be something like Carter 1980 or Reagan 1984; not as sweeping either way, but a clear verdict, one way or the other.
