Fairly pessimistic, aren't we?

IMO Frist's prospects grow dimmer everyday.

Nah.  He can overcome the cat-killing and abortion-profiting things.  I mean, people elected a man who intentionally lowered the standards for protecting the environment, gave a mentally disabled person the death penalty, ran up the deficit, sent us to a war for a reason that was later disproven, destroyed our economy, exported jobs, is doing little to help the immigration policy of the USA, is trying to destoy SS as we know it, appointed extreme right-wing judges, does nothing about the costs of health care for average Americans, gave us the greatest piece of legislation ever: the Patriot Act, and completely ignores the separation of church and state.  That's just the tip of the iceberg.  So, if his proven record is all of this and more, Frist can DEFINITELY win the 2008 election.

Might I remind you that 51% of America voted for George W. Bush

Yeah, but that was with all of those stats; Frist only has two bad things to overcome, and he will.

Add in that he's a not only a senator (which history has shown can be a terrible asset to a candidate), not only a Senate Majority Leader (ask Bob Dole why this makes it worse), but won't even be a senator by 2008 (he announced he'll stand down in 2006).

Uh, actually, I know that if he loses to Casey he won't even be mentioned as a candidate but if he wins, he will be a frontrunner for the nomination. So keep on coughing, laughing...whatever you'd like. As much as you dislike the guy, PADem, he's got a shot at the nomination!

As for Bayh....ha...good one...

Why not, if moderate Democrats and pragmatic liberals can get there brains into gear come 2008?

Bayh has a good chance.  I think his governing style and common sense approach will play out well in Iowa.  If he is the only moderate in the running he will do well in south and midwest.  Plus, he has a solid fundraising base.  Same thing goes for Warner.  He can bankroll his own campaign and has a solid fundraising base.

With big name liberals in the race and a more organized and energized liberal race, it's unlikely that someone like Bayh would win.

That is not possible since both parties nominees are still way up in the air, and most likely will be until January 2008.

Bayh should have no problem get far left-wingers to vote for him, but when it comes to the general election, I can't imagine anyone voting for such a socialist hack. But then, Kerry got 48%...but I think the circumstances were different, given the war.

If he's such a socialist hack, why did he vote for this bankruptcy bill, which even a lot of conservatives oppose?

Come on. A Former Governor, now senator with experience in both  branches of government, who wins constantly and wins well at that in a dependably Republican state....

A moderate who appeals to both sides of the political divide.

We'd be stupid not to pick him, and I'm confident he will be our nominee (I wouldn't mind Warner though if for some reason we're stupid enough not to pick Bayh)

I know you'd be stupid not to pick him. You were stupid not to pick a better candidate in 2004 (like Lieberman or Gephardt).

Yes, you would. But, I don't doubt that your party will be that stupid.  Enjoy voting for another person who will be smeared as a liberal.

If I had to make a guess, Bayh.  In saying that, however, I'm going to point out that it is way too early.

I fully expect to see the next elected president to be an ex-governor.

I also do not expect Jeb Bush to run.

I'm kind of expecting a Dem to win in '08, which will be followed by another 2 term Republican in 2012, probably Jeb.

The House and Senate, however, will remain firmly in GOP hands.

Dennis L. Algiere.

Who is he you might ask?

Republican (Minority) Leader of the Rhode Island State Senate!

That's who!

Now that certainly would be a dark-horse candidacy! Wink

I say that it is high time we had a true liberal for President like Dennis Kuchinich or Jesse Jackson Jr. or someone along those lines. Too many moderates are being mentioned.
I can't see myself voting for someone like Lieberman, whom I consider a DINO.

I can't see anyone voting for Kucinich or Jackson.

President John F. Kennedy.  He's already dead for some 40 odd years,  too bad he died in office.

What? You want me to back up this assertion? Well, okay
before Washington became president, there were eight other presidents who served for one year under the Articles of Confederation.  The first being Samuel Huntington.  This would make up for 8 previous, the ninth was a man who swore in for the president and was president for one day before (I think it was Zachary Taylor) got to the White House.

I think the question that was meant to be asked was "Name the 53rd president".  I honestly don't know, hmm let's say George Allen.  Since none of us can predict the future, my guess is as good as yours.
