I have to admit that I know very little about Brownback, and would prefer to support either Jeb or Santorum, though possibly Owens as well.

There are plenty of superior options for the nomination, but if he's OK on the key issues (IMO) I'll vote for him.

What are the key issues for AuH2O?

He would be a fine choice, but I am wary of Kansas republicans winning the nomination. (See Landon and Dole!)

If other social conservatives don't run, I'll support him.

Don't worry there will be plenty of social conservatives to choose from.  Smiley.  Right now I'm inclined to support Owens if he runs, honestly I don't know a whole lot about Brownback he doesn't seem overly offensive.

He really doesn't appeal to me very much. He comes from the polar opposite end of the party to me... But y'know, if, and only if, he gets the nomination.

I'd much prefer Sanford. A true moderate libertarian.

Wasn't Sanford recently quoted as saying he didn't want the job and that he wouldn't run, though?

Of course, everyone says that at this stage, heh. It's more "dramatic" or something that way, when they "change their minds" in '07.

Not a Republican so didn't vote.

Brownback would be a terrible candidate for the Republicans.  He's a senator (strike one) from a strongly Republican state (strike two), with hard-right views (strike three).  There are SO many better options for the nomination.

If he were the GOP nominee, why not?

He's not my first choice, and I would not vote for him in any primary elections.

I recall reading that he has some shady connections to ultra-right wing organizations. Does anyone have any information on this?

A good candidate for SecState, though.  A legitimate advocate for human rights.
