While a great number of factors contributed to her downfall, many agree that the implementation of the community charge was the most directly associated with Thatcher's massive unpopularity and the leadership challenge from Heseltine.
She only needed a few more votes in the leadership contest in 1990 to secure her position as leader of the Conservative Party, even if Heseltine still went through with his insurgent campaign. But could the Iron Lady have won an historic fourth term?
