Could Cruz's last name hurt him in states that are totally not racist or xenophobic at all like Kentucky?

Considering this is Rand Paul's "home state" and additionally a very red state, this is a piss poor polling showing for him. Granted he is "ahead", but shouldn't he be by at least double digits?

Also noting this states republican voting history in Presidential races the other GOP posting only slight margins or being behind should be concerning for them. This is certainly not a state Hillary would need to win by any means nor do I expect her to win it, then again I wouldn't expect it to be this tight in any polling....

A 6 point lead, at best, in Kentucky. This would be like if the most electable Democrat was only ahead 6 points in Maryland.

Eh, more like in CT, maybe...  Maryland is more comparable to Kansas.  Keep in mind Democrats outnumber Republicans in KY and they have a popular Democratic governor.  This result is hardly surprising.

Why does KY like Hillary more than AR now?

Think back to the primaries.

"Kentucky was another state that highlighted Barack Obama’s growing problem among working-class whites, a swing voting bloc also referred to as Reagan Democrats who Clinton claimed were crucial to Democrats winning back the White House. Exit polls in Kentucky supported Clinton’s claim – of Kentucky voters who voted for Clinton, only one-third of voters said they would vote for Obama should he become the nominee while another one-third said they would vote for presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain and another one-third said they would not vote at all."

No, of course there are progressives.  The point is that Clinton is a candidate who could win the votes of said rural "racists" who are, according to voter registration maps, by and large registered Democrats.

A good 20% almost never vote Democrat for any office, let alone President. Same with OK.

They have a pretty popular Democratic governor and have elected Democrats to that office with regularity.  Just because they don't vote for national Democrats who are often socially liberal doesn't mean they aren't Democrats.  After all, the state carried for Clinton twice.

With 45% & 46%, respectively. I don't doubt Hillary could get there in a good climate, but beyond that? I'm not so sure.

A good 20% still don't vote for any Democrat, not even Beshear who, despite massive popularity, averages about 20% disapproval with Kentucky Democrats. That 20% is virtually ungettable. In Oklahoma, it's probably higher.
