As introduced by Sen. Naso:

2nd Amendment to the Election Procedures, Certification and Challenges Act

Section 1, Clause 2 shall hereby be repealed and replaced with:

"The certification of election results shall be the automatic certification of the vote at exactly 72 hours after the opening of voting."

2:  The statement "those which are awaiting certification" in Section 2, Clause 1 shall hereby be stricken.

I hereby open debate on this bill.

What is the Act right now, as stated?  The Atlas Wiki is down.

From memory, this won't be too bad at all actually - its reasonably sensible.

The issue was also covered in the Omnibus Election Bill I got one of the guys to introduce.

The only issue I can think of here is this - Certification cannot take place instantly at midnight because somebody simply has to sit and count the votes regardless - this does take time. What happened back in February with King deciding it was fine to wait 18 hours to count was ridiculous and caused all sorts of confusion as to what the true result was; Ultimately it turns out he was counting off a saved version on his computer - but whether we should be allowing that sort of confusion to simmer is questionable.

My bill requires a certification as soon as humanly possible - i.e. no more 18 hour waits, but obviously if somebody like nickshepDEM wants to f*** around as he did almost immediately after the vote closed, then there's nothing we can do, except try to encourage people not to do it because it does require a finite amount of time to count the vote.

I'd like to say that regardless of where this goes, I think this is a well intentioned bill, and a reasonable one. Whether the Senate wants to integrate it into mine at a later date is up to it, but I would not consider it in any way detrimental to the bill.

I did.  I gave this to him prior to the Omnibus Election Bill to begin correcting my mistakes from D2, but it isn't necessary anymore.  (I hope the OEB doesn't keep the name of "King is an Idiot Act")

I ask Senator Naso to withdraw this bill, or I ask the President to bring it to a vote ASAP, because it is not necessary due to the Omnibus Election Bill.

The President does not have the authority to call a vote of the Senate. Only the PPT and the Vice President (President of the Senate) have that authority.

Thank you, Naso.  I believe the Omnibus Election Bill is now up... Smiley
