This is surprisingly close for a Wyoming race.

What he said. I was expecting the Democrat to be in the low 20s, and be some perennial dude from Louisiana.

Pete Gosar is the brother of a Republican Congressman from Arizona. Can't imagine that would be a thing that matters.

Apparently Pete Gosar used to "Chair" the Wyoming Democratic Party.

Every gubernatorial race this year is closer than expected. An anti-incumbent wave? Mead only got 54% in the primary as well.

"Ahead" is still an understatement here.

For those who keep up on Wyoming politics: why did Mead do so poorly in the primary?

Yeah, good question.

Fwiw it looks like there were quite a number of GOP legislators there who faced serious primary challenges.

The Tea Party seems to be fairly strong in the state, and Mead seems to be from the establishment wing of the Wyoming Republican Party.

What's funny is that the woman who ran against Matt Mead in 2010 was Leslie Petersen, who was the Chairwoman of the Wyoming Democratic Party, and was Gosar's predecessor in that office.
