From Politics1.com

South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford (R) told the Orangeburg Times & Democrat that he will "absolutely not" be a candidate for President in 2008, despite a draft movement supporting him.

If he sticks by this, then there goes one Republican that I'd definitely vote for. Sad

Having read the actual article on the T&D’s website, it looks like Sanford has been quoted out of context.  All I would conclude is that he has said that is not a Presidential candidate, not that will not become one.  It would be ludicrous for him to start a Presidential run befire he gets re-elected Governor in 2006, in any case.

Boo hoo. When some up in his state party spoke out against his running, I figured it was over.

I agree.  It's considered tacky to expect the good folks of your state to pony up lots of cash for your re-election, just to bail on them two years later.  Most politicians would prefer to get that re-elect 'W' in their column, then run anyway when it's time for the big show.

By the same token, Hillary won't formally announce until after she has won re-election to the Senate.  Why give your opponent campaign ammunition when it isn't necessary?
