After reading this thread, I'm convinced some on this poll would vote for Ed Gein and treat him like a pretty swell guy so long as he had a D after his name.

The fact that you're comparing Governor Quinn to a murderer says more about you than it does him.

I'm not directly comparing them. I'm using an even more despicable figure to prove how awful this football team mentality has gotten

Quinn is not despicable and the fact that you're saying he is is shameful.

This poll aside, the polling for Illinois this year has been insane. I honestly have no idea what to think about it. What few polls there are, are simply all over the place. And they're all done by just a few firms.

The only polls I'm really comfortable looking at are the CBS ones, because of enormous sample sizes and more "believable" numbers. But they show Rauner in the low 40s and Quinn in the high 30s, which still leaves an enormous amount of uncertainty as to the rest of the electorate.

Basically, all the Illinois polls are useless! They're either having extreme swings with interesting crosstabs, or they have so many undecideds you can't determine anything.

I think this is the only time I will tolerate the ever-so-overused saying, "The only poll that counts is election day".

Is that why Illinois' job creation rate is currently ahead of the Kingdom of Walker?

I hate Scott Walker. You're arguing with the wrong avatar. Not every criticism of Quinn makes one an anti-union Teabagger.

Illinois fell pretty hard during the Great Recession, so yeah it'll have farther to bounce back. Plus, Illinois is more involved in the national and world economy because of Chicago. That's not particularly a ringing endorsement of Quinn's economic policies.

This doesn't change the fact that Quinn & Co. raised taxes in 2011 after campaigning on not doing so in 2010 in the aftermath of a recession, the backlog of bills that need to be paid hurts businesses (that, y'know, employ people), and cut education spending and loots the funds for environmental protection to cover his budget goodies. So now protecting public sector union pensions takes precedent over environmental affairs and education? The hell kinda liberalism is that? 13 credit downgrades that suck up more money in the form of higher interest payments? How about the federal investigation into the crime prevention program? So much for him being the "reformer".

But muh Unionz! Muh minimum wage!

Quinn has a record of failure, and has spent more time pandering to "target groups" and special interests instead of actually fixing problems. It has become almost impossible to defend him, which is why his entire campaign has been: "Bruce Rauner is rich. You know who was also rich? Mitt Romney! Rauner's evil and hates women, poors, and unions. Vote for me, I'll take more of your money and give it to special interests that support me, and maybe raise the minimum wage".

That's literally all Quinn's campaign has been. Fear-mongering, pandering, and deflecting. Yes, Rauner says dumb stuff and needs to be clearer on his proposals. If Rauner really is hard-right, the Democratic legislature will check him, and you can turn him out in 2018. But Rauner isn't an idiot, he won't commit political suicide for ideological purity. I see no reason not to give him a chance.

I don't get the blind support the red avatars on here are giving Quinn while ignoring all the horrible policies that you guys would shred a Republican for. I really don't. There's so much hate for Hillary on here from the True Leftists, but not for Quinn? You guys are sounding like deluded Republicans who simply don't care about facts. All that matters is the (D) next to his name.

Well there's my rant for the day.

I wish Quinn would have been primaried by a more credible candidate; someone like Lisa Madigan.

LOL.  You guys actually think this is a credible poll?  It's nothing even close to every other one that has come out for this race.

I meant just in general. The 2010 senate election in Illinois had one. Florida in 2000 for Gore vs Bush had one too. This poll btw has a lot of undecideds.

So your post in a topic about a poll on the Illinois governor's race was irrelevant? Good to know for future time saving.

You mean Illinois might not want to vote for someone who wants to abolish the minimum wage, and stashes his company's money in the Cayman Island to avoid taxes? Shocking.

Quit pretending this poll has any chance of being accurate. Seriously.

We all know that if a poll showed up where Nathan Deal or Scott Walker was leading by 11 we'd all be refusing to believe it in any way, shape, or form - but when a poll (from a newspaper (!)) shows up showing Pat Quinn (who is arguably in more trouble than Deal or Walker) leading by 11 (after public polling showing him trailing for months upon months, and the most recent internal showing him with only a 3 point lead), it's suddenly the most accurate poll in existence, just because Quinn has a D after his name? Quit being ridiculous. If outliers favoring republicans are inaccurate, then so are outliers favoring democrats (and vice versa).

Needless to say, this poll has no stake in my ratings.

Here are the polls from 2010. Quinn trailed in the last 10 polls, and was down 4.5 points in the RCP average.

It will be closer than this. The GOP hasnt won the gov since 1998 and Rauner is a businessman not an officeholder and hasnt closed the sale.

I really hope Rauner crushes Quinn. There is no way Quinn is leading by this much.

It terrifies me that a criminal might win reelection.

Like I stated earlier being a businessman may have a distinct disadvantage to being an officeholder. Businessman being against min wage.

But as long as Quinn keeps it close, no blowout, he can beat Rauner in final pill.
