Surprised that less people have clocked this and subsequent related posts:

I am excellent with dates.  I can remember exact dates from my childhood and even before I was born.  I can even name what day of the week the event happened.  I have a virtual calendar in my head so without looking at a real calendar, I know what day a particular date fell on or will fall on.

I'm no expert, but that's a really classic (to the point of cliché, even) sign of a certain something.

i dont understand why bushie doesnt pursue becoming a preacher.  he seems to love church (and church people).

See King's post. Bushie thinks he's going to be a powerful businessman who makes loads of money and is the talk of the town. Whenever someone comes to him with a realistic opportunity, he scoffs at it as being beneath him, like being a security guard or working in retail or working during school or anything like that.

I don't think he likes CADD and only did it because Papa Bushie told him to do it. If he really liked it, he'd want to learn all he could about it; practice it; ask whoever he could for guidance instead of watching the clock all day; and he would've finished his class instead of leaving early while doing the bare minimum to graduate.

I know what it's like to work jobs you don't like. Most of my summer jobs in undergrad and high school were at a golf course where I worked 15 hour days from 6am to 9pm and it sucked being outside in the heat. I'd watch the clock or play on my phone half the time. That's Bushie now. He just doesn't like CADD no matter what he says here.

Because being a CADD drafter is the go-to ticket to riches and power? What is the ceiling as far as career advancement in that field? I agree that Bushie has a very archaic vision of himself being the sole breadwinner in his nuclear family household and retiring from his CADD job at age 65 with a pension and a gold watch.

I still maintain my opinion that Bushie would be better suited doing Christian non-profit work or becoming some sort of pastor. He could eventually become a program director or a grant writer.

Is it time to rehash the fantasy of opening up Christian missions in several African nations?

Bushie, serious question

Have you considered seeing a psychiatrist?

I don't blame him for not wanting a low wage job these jobs are terrible and get no respect from anyone. Our society looks down on those working at mcDonalds or Walmart as stupid or lazy. If they complain about there job or lack of pay they are told to "just get a better job, as if there are plenty of other jobs or we don't need people in these jobs. And God forbid you take some food stamp money to get by, you become scum of the earth to a lot of people.

Except he doesn't need the money. He needs enough to not bleed his parents dry.

At low wage, he can pay his rent and buy some groceries. If he needs anything outside of those means, his parents will gladly buy it for him as a gift.

The way I see it is many people get laid off at their job, yet the vast majority of those people don't give up on that line of work.  They like the line of work they're in and want to keep pursuing it.  That's the position I'm in.  Yeah, it sucks that I'm likely going to be let go on Tuesday morning, but despite what Duke is saying, I do like this industry and I want to keep pursuing a career in it.

I'm also not saying the Walmart or McDonald's or security guard workers are beneath me, but I can't live on the wages they make.  My goal is to eventually take over all of my bills to where Mom and Dad don't have to pay a single dime.  I know I will likely not get all the way there just starting out in a new job, but it would be a good place to start.  Maybe I do need to spend at least some time looking at the AutoCAD program on my computer and play around with it some.  I don't have to give up my free time entirely, but it would be good to look at it regularly.  There are plenty of things I can be doing to sustain the next job longer than 2 months.

Even though things look like a done deal at my current job, I'm still going to attempt to let him give me another chance so I can start working into the third month and at least finish out my 90 days.  I will promise him that I won't miss any more time for the rest of my 90 days.  I still hang my hat on the fact that he said himself that he's seen progress, except for one foul up at the last hour of Week 7.  I corrected that mistake within 15-30 minutes, so it's not like it cost me a whole lot of time.  I'm still going to attempt to save my job.  It may be an exercise in futility, but it can't hurt anything.

Even with trying to save my job on Tuesday, I'm still going to start the job search hot and heavy on Monday with several applications going in tomorrow night.

Sounds like Bushie is going to beg furiously. He may be escorted off the premises after all. Also, people who are "laid off" don't lose their jobs after a couple of months due to gross incompetance. That's getting fired, and is something else completely. It's analagous to being divorced rather than widowed. Either way, you're single but from completely different circumstances. In any case, you can work at BigBoxMart and still apply for CAD jobs if you are that convinced you have to be a drafter. At this point, you don't have the luxury of just putting in applications.

There's a difference between being laid off and getting fired in the training period as an entry level employee after being a C student in your 6 month certificate course at a community college.

Laid off is a term for people well into the careers that are victims of company downsizing. According to you, the company is expanding, moving to new offices, hiring more new employees. They are not downsizing. They have plenty of money to give an employee of your level. You are getting fired.

You need to stop sugarcoating your life to yourself. You are getting fired at CAD and you need to either start studying and, yes, give up all your free time, or find a new line of work.

I know I'm getting fired, but the result is the same.  I went to school for CAD and now have a $7,000 loan I'm about to start paying on.  I'm not ready to pay that over 10 years to a waste of time and money.  No sir.  I will apply for more CAD jobs and, Lord willing, I'll land one and excel at it.  I'm not ready to concede that it was a waste of money.

One thing that I have noticed and was mentioned here earlier is that at least with this job, my attendance was much better for the first 7 weeks.  The last day of week 7 was a supervisor-induced day off.  Week 8 was a rough week, but I still managed 2 1/2 days of work when he gave me the week off.  I think his mind was already made up, though.

Yes, your attendance was great and you still got fired. That doesn't happen to a "pretty darn good" drafter.

You have a lot of work to do. You need to start studying your CAD.

Why are we getting so caught up with the actual job performance?  Is it possible that Bushie has a number of odd ideosyncracies and habits that perhaps make him a pain in the ass to work with?  Perhaps others became annoyed with his insistance on listening to the radio at a reasonable volume from 9 to 11...

I jest, but Bushie has a ton of -isms.  Jeff, is it possible you did anything to annoy your boss?

I'm actually kind of excited about the next chapter.  I have no reason to be nervous right now or upset.  I did everything I could do to keep this job and it just wasn't enough.  I'll wash my hands of this job and I'll come out the winner.

I've wondered this myself. Jeff, what do you do during the day as a result of your Tourette's?

I may listen to music, but very softly, and not when I'm talking with my boss or co-workers.

J-Mann, good question, I just operate like a normal adult except with body and motor tics.  If I'm focused, my Tourette's are calm, if I'm not focused or if I'm stressed or nervous, my Tourette's are pretty active.  This week while I was dealing with my uncle's death, my Tourette's were really bad.  I had to get on a new medicine at the doctor yesterday that's supposed to help calm the nerves after a very stressful situation.  It's a cousin to Xanax or Vallium.  I'm only supposed to take it for 30 days.

A humorous turn of events, yes... but you still need to go to your local West Coast Video and slam this bad boy into the ol' VCR.
