Kobach makes Jon Husted look like the most non-partisan Secretary of State in U.S. History, so yeah, a massive HP for the massive deceiving, self-serving GOP hack.

HP, obviously. The problem is that so many states have a partisan elected official in charge of elections. That should be ended in every state ASAP. Elections should NOT be subject to partisan politics in any way.

State Secretaries of State should not be an elected office. Kris Kobach, among others, is the reason for that.

FF. One of the best SoS's in the country. I hope he challenges for senate against Orman for Senate in 2020 or Davis for governor in 2018. After defeating an incumbent, hopefully he'll get propelled to the national scene and run for president in 2024.

IL took that function away from the SoS in the 1970 constitution.

The current State BoE has 4 Dems and 4 Pubs. IL state law also provides a mechanism for counties and cities to establish boards of election to replace that function of the elected clerk.

Kobach was the legal architect of self-deportation laws across the country and particularly the Arizona SB 1070 law.  This guy is on the Mount Rushmore of Evil Republican State Secretaries of State with Ken Blackwell and Katherine Harris.

I think that's a very reasonable solution. The electoral process should be completely fair for all sides. Anything related to elections should be decided by a nonpartisan panel, such as the Wisconsin's Government Accountability Board (and something along the lines of California's Citizens Redistricting Commission for redistricting).
