It wasn't really a Democratic year in Alaska, in 2008, so how did Ethan Berkowitz do so well against Don Young?

It wasn't really a Democratic year in Alaska, in 2008, so how did Ethan Berkowitz do so well against Don Young?

It was a Democratic year everywhere in 2008. I mean, Begich won over a super entrenched incumbent. And Don Young is kind of terrible and very corrupt, so combined with the 08 wave, yeah, Young nearly lost his seat.

Oh, and he also had an incredibly close primary race against then-Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell, so there's that.

Actually, many of us thought Don Young would lose in 2008 (he was in a lot of ethical trouble). We were surprised that Young won relatively easy and Begich only barely won.
