Balukoff voted for Romney though, so let's see how this race turns out.

He actually blatantly came out and said that?

He actually blatantly came out and said that?

From Sabato:

“In his quest for a third term, Gov. Butch Otter (R) really struggled in his primary, getting only 51 percent of the vote, and we’ve heard from some sources there that he could be vulnerable. Apparently, Otter is having trouble unifying his party, and deep-pocketed challenger A.J. Balukoff, a conservative Democrat who said he voted for Mitt Romney in 2012, might give disaffected Republicans an alternative (a Libertarian is also running).”

Interesting. I certainly couldn't support anyone who voted for him.

If Balukoff does manage to get elected, it'll be interesting to see him contend with a Republican majority in both state houses and every other elected official being a Republican.

Sounds like he's basically a Republican anyway so he should fit in well enough.

He's pro-gay marriage, which makes me think that he's fairly liberal on other social issues. His website doesn't make many of his policies clear.

Dave Freudenthal managed well enough up until 2010, so hey.

What has Otter done? How could he have pissed off so many conservatives?

He's been in office WAAAAAAY too long. Combined with an attempt as a three-term Idaho Governor, he had a whopping four terms as Idahos' Lieutenant Governor. Plus the Luna Laws, which tried to limit teacher's collective bargaining (probably also why the School Superintendent race is also polling very close) and got overturned in 2012 via voter referendums.

To be fair, conservatives weren't mad when Rick Perry or George Pataki ran for third terms. It's just because of Otter himself.

Otter hasn't attacked Marxist Obama enough. Romney Democrat Balukoff is on track to deliver a good spanking.

This, plus he's been a tad too ACA-friendly for many people's taste (I believe he set up a state-run exchange, though I don't remember if he took Medicaid expansion or not). Also, FWIW, Balukoff's ads are great (we get a lot of them in the Spokane are, being so close to CDA). Idaho's schools are notoriously sh**ty and that's essentially the centerpoint of Balukoff's campaign.
