Hopefully she goes on to Blanche Kirk in two years.

That's actually a little weaker than I expected. 59% isn't bad, but it's down from 65% in 2010 and 72% in 2006.

I do wonder if she might be a bit of a paper tiger, it's not hard to win these downballot races by a good margin but then turn out to be useless in a high profile race (see Terri Lynn Land for an extreme example). Is there any other evidence that she's the political juggernaut Democrats often hype her up as being?

Madigan is interested in becoming governor, not senator. All this talk about her challenging Kirk seems like wishful thinking to me.

How did Madigan and Durbin win Gallatin County?  I know it's been traditionally Democratic, but Obama lost it by 18% last time around.  What gives?

Madigan wants to be Governor, fortunately Quigley should be able to defeat Kirk.

Who the hell would rather be governor of Illinois than senator?! One is an awful job that ends in being hated by the entire state and/or in jail; the other you coast to an easy victory every six years and/or run for president.

What's so impressive about this victory? Madigan is in a job where the best thing you can do is be ignored and then be re-elected, and Schimpf is a some dude candidate. In any other year she'd be pulling 65%.

If she wanted to be Governor she would've ran this year and easily taken out Quinn in a primary and won the GE. Now she would have to go against an incumbent Rauner in 4 years. I think she's aiming for the Senate which is far easier job than being Governor.

It isn't the only county in the upper south that is still a generally Democratic county that went hard against Obama in 2012...

The more surprising one to me is Madison County. It is traditionally Democratic, floated toward Romney in 2012, but everything suggests that in a route such as this it would go to her.

Haven't seen my good buddy ClarkR and his map-posting antics on here for a while. Cheesy

But yeah, there is no doubt Madigan should run for Senate.

Why didn't she run for the Senate in 2010 when it was an open seat? Either way, she would have to take down an incumbent in 2016.

I wouldn't be surprised if she never ends up running for any higher office.

Martha Coakley is a better candidate for Senate than Lisa Madigan. Heck, even Alan Keyes is a better candidate. Anyone's a better candidate than someone who never runs.

Jim Edgar would be very surprised to learn that he was in prison and/or unpopular.

Pat Quin, Rod Blagojevich and George Ryan are envious of Jim Edgar.
