Married for just over 20 years now, but things have been tense in the few months and a major incident between the two (no, nobody cheated you gossips) is brewing and will likely explode tonight.
Everything went over fine, interestingly enough. Had to do with my middle brother's situation and his sociopath doctor who likes to pit parents against each other at "family weekend."

Still married, though I have an illegitimate half-sister from my dad.

Do people still call others "illegitimate" seriously in this day and age?

My parents are divorced. When you grow up with two people as parents who don't really like each other but don't explosively fight or often express their mutual disdain, it's kind of a shock when they split up. But, once they do, you think back and wonder why they didn't sooner. I guess they did it for the kids. Thanks, mom and dad, for the strange example you've set. I suppose it's better than being "illegitimate."

I was just trying to say he had her with a lady he wasn't married to, yeesh.

Yeesh? I wasn't berating your word usage, just expressing my surprise because the word always had very negative connotations to me, like a euphemism for "bastard." Maybe I'm alone in thinking that. It's like calling undocumented immigrants "illegals," as though their being is itself a perpetuating mistake. Of course you probably didn't mean it that way, unless you hate your half-sister (and let's be honest, she is kind of insufferable sometimes), which is why it struck me as weird. No need to be defensive, cowboy.

Married, sadly. My mother thinks it's better to be treated like a piece of furniture by a misogynist who emotionally abused both his sons than to leave.

Catholic?

Methodist. She basically raised my brother and I as a single mom while my dad was on his ass all the time expecting us to make him look good. If nothing else, it taught me that sperm doesn't make a father.

Americans will always amaze me with marriage.

My parents are together since more than 25 years, but are not married and won't marry.

Oh shut up. The French way is degenerate, a la Hollande. It is disgusting and repulsive.

Married, for 25 years.

I'm not French, I'm Québécois. We Québécois have more class and don't glorify having affairs.
