In 2004, Kerry only needed Ohio to win the election.  I was wondering how this could have happened and I thought the forum might be able to provide some input.

Any ideas?  Maybe a different VP candidate?

Maybe having a stronger candidate at the 2002 Secretary of State election?  After what happened in Florida in 2000 Democrats should have been more prepared for similar incidents in states that could decide the election.
