1972 w/ George Wallace as the Dem

Nixon was going to win a landslide of historic proportions in 1972 regardless of who the Democratic nominee was.  A weak presidential candidate like Wallace would further strengthen Nixon's already tremendous lead.   What became known as the Watergate Scandal was not even heard of by 99.99% of Americans before the 1972 election.

There is no way that any states outside of Alabama and Mississippi would give their electoral votes to Wallace, at one time an avowed racist and segregtionist, although by 1972 was trying to reform his name.

Not even dependable Democratic states like Massachusetts and Rhode Island would have gone for Wallace, and for the first time in history, I belive DC would have gone Republican.  There is no way the predominantly African American voters in DC would give their votes to Wallace.

You are being extremely generous to Wallace, either that, or very kind.

Why do you think DC, overwhelmingly African American, would give their votes to Wallace, a one time avowed racist and segregationist?
